I'm hoping he can protect the ball better than Jay, yet also hit some long ball completions, especially with the speed WRs we've added. We have a decent OL now, and we have a solid RB who can be a serious run threat. The unknown in all of this is Loggains. It's one thing to have good players. It's another thing to have them used to their full potential.
With the additions and no major injuries, the should be at least 7 - 9.

I actually agree. In our current situation I want us to build the Team and put the pieces together to help our QB after next season. Its either Glennon or a Draftee then
One under-discussed upside to Glennon is when you grow up like like a mutation between Big Bird and Napolean Dynamite, necessity dictates you must have a good sense of self-deprecating humor. I bet he's an easy guy to get along with. He'll be a good leader on field. He'll also be able to see the entire field with that elevator supporting his head.
On a slightly more serious note, anyone else notice the similarity in the way Glennon talks and the way Pace talks?
I read this and had a great laugh. We've just committed $19 mil to someone else's backup QB whom the author and many others feel we should be looking to draft his eventual replacement immediately. Only the Bears could possibly be so screwed up in their seemingly endless pursuits for a true franchise QB.
If Glennon is not the QB of the future at least we're rid of Cutler right and we don't have to spend another season watching Hoyer dink and dunk his way to losses or Barkley throw even more balls up for grabs than Cutler on his worst days. You all realize we didn't gain anything here don't you? This was simply a change for the sake of a change.
The only positive I see coming from this is that Fox has another mediocre vet QB he can live with for now (until he won't) to lead his pathetic excuse for an offense through yet another mediocre season, or worse, and collect one more years worth of paychecks before being sent into perpetual retirement. I don't think even he has enough lives to rebound from being fired while under contract a third time.
When all is said and done I can't help but feeling this is just one more year wasted in an attempt create a winning franchise by those who have no idea how to do it correctly. The pile of crap at the McCaskey's feet is getting deeper but they still want us to keep wading in. Is it ever gonna end?
I think it's a good move if the Bears draft an early round QB and start trying to get ahead in the QB game. Glendon gives them some time to develop their prospect without the pressure of throwing them on the field day 1. He also gives them a bit of flexibility in the draft and creates some uncertainty in other teams regarding what the Bears will do.
I highly doubt Glennon' coming to Chicago to be the franchise. He's just a temporary bridge between Cutler and the next guy we can believe in - if only temporarily.
Best: Glennon serves as a mid tier - upper mid tier QB while the Bears develop this years draft QB - ideally Watkins. Worst: Glennon serves as an impediment to drafting a high QB this year and sucks as a QB leaving us in the exact same spot next year.
That's the thing Bell, before the season starts: if this move stands on it's own and they don't try and take a legitimate move forward via the draft then it's not good. If they take a legit qb prospect this draft then it's a great move. After the season starts: If Glennon plays really well to lights out(small chances) then you can keep him or trade him for future picks depending on how you see the rookie coming along. If all he does is play along the lines of Hoyer/McCown then you can keep him until the rookie beats him out and he can be the backup(probably greatest possibility). If he plays turrible(small chances), then you can cut him next year at no real loss.
There isn't a ton of downside to this signing the team needed to move on; and Glennon unlike other options doesn't stop them from taking a qb early in the draft.
How can anybody be certain of that at this point? Absolutely no way, we can talk about it in about 2 or 3 years. Im hoping for the best, thats about it.
That's what I've been saying since day one. The guy has essentially 1 year of football played, since when can anyone make a judgement on a guy w/1year of tape? Guy could end up being a franchise player he could end up being Barkley, just no way of knowing. What the Bears did was take a 1yr flyer on a guy which buys whoever they draft at qb a chance to develop.
If you don't like the signing, then best case scenerio is he loses, and loses big and the bears endup w/a top 1-5 pick again and a shot at a legit QB next year.

In which case, there will be a need and Pace goes to FA for needs. We'll get to peruse what QBs teams don't resign next year and make them the next franchise QB.
I am not planning to pick @3 again next year. I really think this is the year to go high on QB. I don't think we do though.

The contract may sound bad at first but the more you look at it the more you find it's a pretty good deal. Compared to all starting QBs his contract is just fine. It's also front loaded for the year he is suppose to start and leaves the Bears open to get rid of him once they find their franchise QB. It's not a bad contract.

They might not got qb in round 1, maybe round 2, definitely by round 3. If not round 3 there is a real issue w/what Pace is doing.
