I normally look at it as this guy in the first or this guy in the second....
But this time for our QB situation, I just say target your guy that you think is the franchise guy and just make sure you get him. Period. You get a franchise QB, there is no reaching for him.
I don't think it is a load of crap. If you need a QB and Watson, Trubisky, Kizer, Mahomes, whoever is available (and you have him ranked as a franchise level QB), you take him. IMO it is that straightforward.

I know... I know..... but I had to come up with a chief bullshitter comeback. I can't let Alex get away with that bullshit!
None who would require the #3 overall pick. IMHO that pick needs to be used on a starter and the ability of any of the top half dozen QB prospects to contribute in 2017 is doubtful. Added to that is that we'd be drafting a QB for a lame duck HC.
I anticipate we'll see a coaching change after this season so why spend a top pick on a QB who may not be a fit for a new HC and OC? I'm not saying don't draft a QB just not to make it the priority pick. This team is going nowhere right now under Fox.
I agree. BUT it is also going nowhere without a good QB. I would have to trust Pace to pick a guy that is not just Fox's guy, but a guy that would transcend Fox.
+1 Exactly. And if Fox would be gone next year, wouldn't it be sweet to have a young franchise QB in place for the new coach? And not only have your franchise QB in place, but also one that has the first year under his belt.
Listening to the draft analysts, Watson doesn't sound like a fit with the Bears. I guess if you go by the premise that the Bears don't like winners, then yeah. He's not a fit. If you go by any other criteria I think he's the guy. I think the Browns take Garrett - who wouldn't take him - and the Niners take a downfield passing threat.

Really no reason for the Bears NOT to take a QB unless Garrett is there b/c SF/Cle passed on him for some reason. I tend to agree w/you. I see Cle looking at taking Garrett and then taking 1 of the remaining 3 top qb's at 12; that's if they couldn't trade for Jimmy G.

Despite all my cynism about Pace fixing the position, I too think it goes
Garrett QB QB
I'm hoping for Watson/Kizer. Bears should get their man.
And while I understand what @soulman has been preaching, despite having Fox around for this season, take the QB now and fix the position.
WARNING TRADE DOWN TALK AHEAD. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK. ...and despite that I think talking about trading down is silly, if it does go Garrett-QB, there might be a team that wants Allen bad enough to trade up (exchange of firsts + pot-sweeteners). If thats the case....I'd think about it. Especially if you can get enough to later trade back in at the bottom of the first and get a QB + CB/S help (5 years under contract compared with 4 for second rounders).
