I normally look at it as this guy in the first or this guy in the second....
But this time for our QB situation, I just say target your guy that you think is the franchise guy and just make sure you get him. Period. You get a franchise QB, there is no reaching for him.
None who would require the #3 overall pick. IMHO that pick needs to be used on a starter and the ability of any of the top half dozen QB prospects to contribute in 2017 is doubtful. Added to that is that we'd be drafting a QB for a lame duck HC.
I anticipate we'll see a coaching change after this season so why spend a top pick on a QB who may not be a fit for a new HC and OC? I'm not saying don't draft a QB just not to make it the priority pick. This team is going nowhere right now under Fox.

I agree. BUT it is also going nowhere without a good QB. I would have to trust Pace to pick a guy that is not just Fox's guy, but a guy that would transcend Fox.

I agree with this. If there is a guy you see as your franchise QB for the next 8 or 10 years, then you go balls-out to get him. I really don't care if he's ready to start right out of the chute. You see the bigger picture here. If he sucks the first year, or even rides the pine for a season, it's not about 2017 here.
It's about the seasons after that... all the way through 2025, 2026 or even 2027 and beyond.
Aaron Rodgers was a 24th pick of the draft and he didn't start the first season. Would a #3 pick have been worth it to get him? How about 4th rounder Russell Wilson? 6th rounder Tom Brady? Heck, what about 4th rounder Dak Prescott?
How important is a franchise QB to a football team? Worth a #3 pick? Yes. In a heartbeat. If you truly believe he is your guy.
