I worry that Nall will get signed by another team this time if he doesn't make the 53. I'm thinking it's 50/50 we can bring him under the radar to the PS this year.
I think he will make it to the ps. But yeah he a better and more versatile player IMO than guys like Clutts, Fiametta, and Michael Burton that we have kept in previous years. He does seem to able to run over guys and move the pile while also catching passes out of the backfield.
There's not much that's ever interesting about the 4th PS game but I'll be watching guys like Whyte, Nall, Sowell, KPL, and Bullard carefully. Seems like the last few roster spots are up for grabs among them.
Shame because Nall is much more deserving of a spot than Whyte, and I really like Whyte. Ryan is such a better RB right now it’s not even funny. I don’t think either makes it to the PS after the flashes they’ve shown.

I look at Sowell as an experiment and he is being given an opportunity to show he can be worth keeping as a TE. I hope he makes the 53. But regardless, I think our TE unit has a bunch of wannabees and this off-season the Bears need to upgrade the unit. It's a weak link on the offense. I honestly don't care much for any of them... mediocre guys at best. And Mitch would benefit with having more talent at TE than what he has there now.
TE definitely is among the Bears weakest positions. No team, even really good ones, are strong everywhere. Yeah, I'd like to have a Travis Kelce or a Zach Ertz too (Shaheen was supposed to provide something like that but it hasn't materialized) but TBH I think we are probably gonna need to spend those 2 2nd round picks next year on OLB and OT. We may need help at CB or ILB as well depending on what happens with Amukamara and Trevathan.
I kinda doubt we have are gonna have much in the way of extra resources to throw at the position. OL and PassRush are way more important to me than TE.
If they do chose to keep Sowell and release Bunting, I sure hope the latter makes it to the practice squad. Bunting looks to me like the kind of player you want to invest in for a year or two down the line. I don't think Sowell is ever gonna be anything more than an extra blocker.

That's exactly how I feel too. Nall is the 4th best RB on this roster in my mind for sure. But Whyte has the edge in STs and that's why I think he's gonna win out. Just my guess

Technically speaking, Nall has been doubling up Whyte’s ST snaps and he noticeably shows up in coverage. Whyte’s ST contributions show up only as a returner, which is probably more valuable, but I like what Ryan has done knifing through coverage and blocking for his return man.
I try not to buy into the camp/PS heroes, but Nall looks like he has a career in the NFL. Whyte looks electric as **** and that’s something we can sneak into the playbook as the season goes. Hopefully, Whyte gets some more looks split outside at WR so we can get some bubble screens, fly routes, end arounds, quick crosses and other burner plays to him. He needs the ball in his hands.

The thing about having Sowell on your team is he is also OL depth. Can he not just jump in the line if needed? Or would he have to change his jersey because of the NFL's stupid jersey number police?

I'll be watching these guys tonight too. It will be interesting as this will be our last look at many of these guys this year even if they do stay with the team. It's always interesting to see where are depth players are at in their development.
Regarding Nall, here is what that article in the Tribune said, FWIW:
David Montgomery, Tarik Cohen, Mike Davis, Kerrith Whyte
Wiederer: Whyte gets the nod over Ryan Nall here based on his special teams worth and his higher long-term upside. But Nall should still have a seat in the room as a member of the practice squad.
Campbell: This roster battle interests me because Whyte’s and Nall’s skill sets are so different. My guess is Whyte’s speed wins out, not to mention the Bears used a seventh-round draft pick on him. But Nall is a tough runner with sneaky nimble feet, as he showed on his 69-yard run against the Colts.
Sowell makes it instead of Braunecker. He makes the switch, Nagy is going to give him a chance. He might not make it through the season, but he's on the roster week 1. Nagy can't burn veterans like that or no one will make a switch again for him.
Braunecker is a core STer in all 4 phases. He was given a 2 yr extension and is only 25 yo. Notice he hasn't played hardly at all this PS. He's 100% safe.
Sowell is 30 yo and has played the entire PS. His roster spot is not secure nor should it be. If Nagy guaranteed someone a roster spot based on willingness to do a position switch rather than actual performance or value to the team, then he's a pretty dumb coach. And I don't think Nagy is a dumb coach.
If they end up keeping Sowell (and they might), I hope its Bullard rather than Bunting that gets released. Think about it...Are we really gonna have 4 TEs active on game day? I kinda doubt it. So then what's the point of keeping Sowell?
To stash and develop a 30 yo TE for the future?
Then it's Bunting that gets the axe. If a coach has a player do a position switch, then gives up on him before the season, it sends a bad message to the rest of the team. Also, Nagy will want to see if he's right. He will be on the roster week 1. Might not make it the entire season, but I don't see them cutting him this soon.
Coward made the team last year and I did not think he was ready to play OT yet. The OLine was very healthy so it wasn't an issue.
Sowell either makes the team as a TE or he's cut. He dropped too much wait to go back to OL this season.
What follows is my MSU degree kicking in:
I think Nagy/Pace approached him about making the switch to TE and gave him assurances he would make the roster, otherwise there is no way Sowell makes the change. He was going to make the team as an OL or he'd get signed after cuts by another team. So when approached to become a TE, he said sure--with assurances he makes the team.

And I'd add that the Bears understand there IS a development and learning curve when you do something like this. Sowell obviously needs SOME time to transition to the new skill set.
