New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo has not even officially capped off his third season in the NFL, but he looks to be right in the crosshairs of the Chicago Bears this offseason.
According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, Chicago "will make a strong, concerted effort to acquire quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo from the Patriots, according to sources with knowledge of the situation. The Illinois native is far and away their top offseason priority."

This revelation should not come as much of a surprise to Bears fans considering the former Eastern Illinois standout looks to be the best potentially available option available at the quarterback position this offseason.
The list of potential free agents at the position lacks any viable long-term starter, while the draft has plenty of question marks at the position. La Canfora suggests a package including multiple second-round picks could fetch the backup QB away from New England in the coming months.
Garoppolo has thrown for just 690 yards and five touchdowns in his three years in the league, but he flashed his potential in two starts earlier in the year for the suspended Tom Brady.
The CBS analyst also says the team is prepared to "engage in talks on Garoppolo at the combine later this month, or sooner if need be." Once the Super Bowl concludes this Sunday, Chicago could possibly be on the phone to find out exactly what the young quarterback will cost them.
Chicago will have to move on from Jay Cutler if a deal for Garoppolo is made and they will also need to work out a long-term deal for the young quarterback who will enter 2017 on the final year of his rookie contract.
If Garoppolo was any good BB wouldn't be letting him go without robbing the other team.
When your team has a 39 year old QB things are much different.
I really don't understand why some want Jimmy here. Dude is an unproven QB who had 2 games as a starter.
Give me Watson or Trubisky over Garoppolo.
I honestly don't know of any Bears fans that want Jimmy on the team UNLESS it's at a reasonable price. I don't see it happening but I see no reason for the Bears not to try it. If they can get Jimmy for a second round pick then it may be worth it. Jimmy is worth more than what a QB drafted late is going to offer the team I think. I am not giving up a first round pick or too many picks in general for him though.
I have a feeling that what it's going to take to get him will be worth it though. I guess we'll have to wait to find out.
this is being discussed already in the Jay Cutler Trade thread.
A few highlighted points:
This is from Jason Laconfora, who doesn't have a good reputation, even among other reporters. ProFootballTalk has reports from a former exec of both NE and Cle that said Cleveland is also going to push very hard, and it sounds like they are willing to give up the 12th overall pick. So their sources sound better then JL. No doubt that the Bears are interested, but the best they can likely do is come close to cleveland(if Cleveland doesn't give up the 12th pick) and hope that not trading w/in the division is enough to put it in the Bears favor. Bernstien claims that the Bears could offer 2 2nd's, this years and next years. If that happens, imo, they need to trade the 3rd pick and get more picks to compensate for the loss.
I'd rather draft our own guy, but if Pace truly believes that Garoppolo is the guy for us, then I'd be okay with that as long as he truly turned out to be a solid franchise QB here on the Bears. I would crap if he turned out to be a mediocre or worse QB here.
I agree with Hawk in that I'm a fan of Garoppolo, but even I wouldn't give up a first rounder for the guy. I've given detailed reasons why I like him and I'm not inclined to do that all over again, but the most I would give is the two 2nds that Ric mentions above.
Get what you can for Cutty and hopefully we can get the Cardinals and the 49ers to bid against one another and sneak a late 3rd or early 4th for the guy. That would help offset the cost. If Cleveland is stupid enough to give up their 12th, then just walk away cuz ya can't beat that.
I just had a feeling that Pace was going to try to go after him, but still this IS LaCanfora we're talking about, so...

I have nothing against him as a QB or a player, I just think the cost in picks and a new contract is going to make it a poor decision. If it doesn't work then Pace/Fox could be gone next season. If you draft your qb you at least buy some time as it's expected that a rookie qb is going to take 2-3 years to fully develop, and you haven't hamstrung your future drafts or b/c it's 1 pick and a rookie contract.

So is this the same guy talk about Pollian being with the Bears??

Yes, I think he's the same one that said there had been several outside sources in HH helping them also.
