By the way, if I do, by absolute chance, get the above^^^right, the first one that gives me a "#nailedit", I'm gonna open the biggest can of cyber whoop ass on you like nuttin you've ever seen.
I'd have a hard time seeing them axe Bellamy as he's a capable receiver but also an ace gunner. Braverman hasn't shown value on STeams in the PS games - in fact he looked amateur. It may be he has more value there that the coaches see in practice but I have no reason to believe it from what I've seen.
I think Bellamy is a lock to make it too. He has something to offer both on offense and STeams and they may need him to replace McManis who may not make the final cuts this year.
It might be nice to put Braverman on the PS to let him work his game out but the risk of putting him through waivers seems steep to me. Then of course once on the PS he's still not immune from being poached away.
it is a possibility, but its also on the verge of madness. When healthy, Royal (by proven quality) is our wr no.2, so getting rid of him and his guaranteed contract at this situation, when we have a bunch of unproven wr's and 2 stars (or 1 so far- Alshon) who cant stay healty all year, getting rid of Royal is very bold, I would think about it ONLY if he cant play more than 5-6 games
Love this response and I feel almost exactly the same. As poor as the Royal move seems right now, it would be an even worse move to cut him. We have very limited skilled vet depth at WR. I'd rather them release Mariani and hold Braverman than release Royal for him.
With as clutch as Mariani was last year? Wow I would not lose Mariani to keep either right now.
I get what Alex is saying but I can also say that Royal is not gonna do us much good outside of the slot so I don't see him as a true #2 who would play any WR position. Unless Loggains has made some changes that slot position won't be productive enough to give anyone who play it that kind of status.
Many would say no but I believe he may be correct. In the worst case if Royal isn't productive or continues to struggle to stay on the field he can be released and if he signs elsewhere the Bears will get and offset for some of that salary guarantee. It's already on the books in cash and cap and it's not like they'd have to replace him with Mariani and Braverman on the roster.
Eddie hasn't done much in the preseason to justify keeping him either and I believe we're past the JA era where his paycheck assures him of a roster spot. Eddie was one of the best slot guys in the NFL but is he any longer? He was signed because we lacked a true slot receiver and because Jay had confidence in him. Much of that confidence has now been passed to Mariani and I agree that cutting him to keep Royal would be shooting ourselves in the foot.
It will be interesting to see how they play it but I've said all along that I think it would be very unwise to expose Braverman to waivers and expect to sneak him through despite his performance in the preseason.
Meridith could be a PS guy that gets called up if Royal gets cut in season.
I think we may have a better chance of getting him through waivers than Braverman. We did last year.
I disagree. Meredith has put together a fair amount of 'starter' tape. He looked like a capable receiver when he was brought onto the active rosters after our WR core was hexed last year. Putting on game tape like he did last year AND showing off his skills in the PS this year makes it unlikely he'll pass waivers again. I have to believe Meredith makes the team. He's looked very strong and can serve as a suitable backup to Jeffery and/or White.

I like Meredith now and I liked him last year as well but I'll explain why I think that way. All of what you say about him is true but overall he's not that much different from others his size who run a 4.5/40. He's basically a possession type guy who will probably never be more than a #3 type WR.
I think he's a solid player who can play in the NFL but nothing special. Teams have guys like him and it may be late in the game for them to add one more possession type guy if they have one or two already. Personally I wouldn't cut him either. I think because of all the publicity surrounding him during and after the draft Braverman may be harder to sneak through and in time with the right team he could be a very special slot receiver.
Just an opinion Belly. No more than that. Hell, I'd like to keep them all.
Going the no Royal route. Also a strong possibility.

Not a Royal fan and he shouldn't be a #2. His time is over and I'd be OK to pay him not to Play for us. Addition by Subtraction

I'm all for cutting Eddie and keeping Meredith and Bellamy. Eddie had his time and like alot us agree on, we have to eventually got our young guys in. I also like the fact that Meredith was a QB in College and god forbid we have the unfortune event of both QB's going down well we have a back up to the back up LOL
