A possible factor for Cousins possibly being available is that maybe there is bad blood brewing there. Who knows? He was really endorsing the FO a month ago. Time will tell.

My guess is he wants to test the FA market and Washington does not want to pay something like a $70+ million guarantee multiyear deal for him. Which is why I think he may not be worth it.
His QB rating and completion percentage was almost identical to Brian Hoyer. Obviously he passed for more yards, as he played 16 games to Hoyer's 6 games. I'd be pretty steamed if we gave any high draft picks for this guy. I'd be hopping mad.
I'm not trying to be critical, but why do we feel the need to "buy" a QB from someone who wants to dump one? What is the attraction here? Seriously.
Personally, I like the guy. I think he is a good QB. The QB is always a problem. Cousins is actually good, but to pay top dollar for him? Not sure that fits with what we are trying to do.
The flip side of that is what if we don't get a good QB in the draft. A guy like Cousins, although he is not Brady does not come up very often. I'd sure like to have him, but at a reasonable price, but I think the two are going to be mutually exclusive.
Sorry to bring this up again but maybe where there is smoke there is fire. Another writer saying Cousins wants out. It is Cutler dejavu but maybe just maybe it could work this time. Something to kick around anyway.
Until March 1 comes around and we know if he is going to be tagged or not, it's probably a mute point. I'm on record as saying I like him, so he is an option in my mind anyway. Even possibly our franchise QB, but I'm definitely not qualified to say whether he is the best QB option out there. Quite frankly, even with 6 scouts you may get 7 opinions on our best option.
And there may be more than one option that gets us where we need. I do know that going the Cousins option is going to be expensive. If he is a real franchise QB, I'd pay it in a heartbeat and move on to other needs, but obviously I don't know if he is or not. My preference is a lower paid draft pick that becomes our franchise QB, but it has been regurgitated many times how hard that is to do. Pace needs to get it right here and I don't envy his having to make this decision.

Yeah I saw the posts before where some he is an ok QB at best. His body of work for the last 2 years is still very steady and quite good. I doubt Pace will forfeit 2 draft picks for Cousins because:
1. He is literally a FA so a new contract must be hammered out and that is going to be the costly part along with the draft pick(s) to get him. 2. He is already 28 and when we gave up the farm for Cutler he was only 26. 3. In his 2 year body of work he has only managed to take the Redskins to the NFC wildcard game in 2016 where they lost to the Pack.
I don't think this is a case of want him or not. I has the look of Cousins wanting more than tbe Redskins value, or want to, pay him. If they tag him again Cousins has them by the balls in negotiations. I would like Cousins to be a QB here, but I don't think He is leaving DC.
If the team that has him doesn't want him, what does that say?
+1,000 My first thought too.
May be a valid point, it may not.
Let me ask you this: Why should the Pats have wanted Marty Bennett if his team didn't? What does that say? Doesn't every team want a versatile 3-down TE that can both receive and block?
Why should Carolina have wanted Greg Olsen? Or the Jets have wanted Brandon Marshall? Why should the Bears have wanted Josh Sitton if the rival (and far more successful) Packers didn't?
Teams part ways with players for a lot reasons beyond "they suck". Sometimes it's as trade bait for draft picks. Sometimes it's a salary cap issue. Sometimes the player isn't deemed to be the "right fit" for the scheme, coach, or locker room. Sometimes it's because they are gonna lose the player shortly anyway so try to get some value for him while they can. Sometimes they have a younger player waiting in the wings they want to hand the job to.
Sometimes they just plain make mistakes.
I'm not advocating for Cousins at all here. Just pointing out that every situation is different. Just like Jimmy Garappolo isn't Matt Cassel.

I do agree that every situation needs to be weighed on its own merit, and is unique. In the end, it is all on Pace to get this right, whether he drafts, or buys a QB from another team. I just hope he gets it right.
