"But another user snarked that following Briggs' defense-first philosophy would be like continuing the Lovie Smith era, and Briggs shot back, "Uhhh, that was the last good era of Bears football, or were you just born 4 years ago?"
Last good era?
Between Fox and his predecessor, Marc Trestman, the Bears finished 22-42, a .344 winning percentage. Meanwhile, Smith compiled a .563 record with three playoff appearances in nine seasons."
I won't go on and on about it, but we did a lot of winning under Lovie Smith. Division Championships, Conference Championship, the only Super Bowl appearance in 30 years here. Fired after a 10-win season so the Bears would get "better"...
... when does this "better" thing happen?
It's already happened. We are closer than you think. Or so I've heard.
I enjoyed the years with Lovie but he was never going to win a Super Bowl with the Bears. He was able to put a really good defensive team out there most years but he was terrible at putting a decent offense on the field. He had enough time to show us what he was capable of and that was a slightly above .500 team. It was nice being competitive and making the playoffs every so often but I never felt confident they could go far, even in the year they made the SB.
I'm just so happy we went from a 10-win season to a 3-win season. Are we "better" now?
Were you happy with the 7 8 9 wins before and the shit drafts?
That 10 win season was an anomoly and a lie. It was the death throws of an aged def that wad no longer going to carry the team anymore. Lovie stays to this point the teambis every bit as bad...possibly worse since he couldnt draft or evaluate talent for shit. His say plus emerys...ugh terrible.
I was all for moving on from Lovie Smith. I am waiting for that "better" thing to happen :-) I think we all are.

I heard that too... about how the team "is in a good place" - it reminds me of old Lovie telling us that there's a lot of football left to play :-)

I said during the Trestman/Emery hire they needed to tear it all down and start from scratch. They didn't, and we've seen the results. After 2 years of Pace/Fox I think Cutler and Jeffery are all that are left, and really only Jeffery should stay. But now the issue is rebuilding via the draft and getting impact players for the foreseeable future via the draft; including a high impact qb, which isn't coming via FA/trade.
