I'm a little confused.... (I know.... that confuses no one...)
From what I just read, he wants cortisone shots and to hold off on surgery until after the season. An outside source recommends surgery. I am taking that to mean that maybe the Browns did not recommend surgery?
So it almost seems like if he wants cortisone shots, he would rather play now and surgery later. I'm having trouble figuring out who's on first here.
Does he just want to sit out this season and wait until next season for the surgery? I mean, if you are planning on sitting, just have the surgery and start healing..
I am definitely not getting something straight here.
Don't feel alone brother, I share in your confusion. Chucks insight above may tell us more than the damn stories we read. I feel bad for Browns fans, as bad as we have been at least we can take comfort in knowing we are not them. Without knowing more, I will reserve judgment on this young man until we see what he has to offer. Hell, even if his injury prohibits him from participating this year, at least it's another young promising DB that may be in the pipeline in the future. Picking him up for a test drive hurts no one.
Everything I read about him says that he played well. I looked at his stats and saw a few sacks (interesting), tackles of course, but no interceptions. To me, that's what I want to see in a CB. First, take it away and second, if you can't block the pass, which I saw some good stats there. Overall, I think a good get. You want your GM to be able to find guys that are being moved for reasons other than suck and locker room cancer. Looks like Pace may have done that here.

Sounds good. Ya know, I look around the league and see example after example of mid to late round guys and even UDFA's that end up being either "solid" contributors to their respective teams or flat out stars! You look at guys like Cam Chancellor and Richard Sherman who were both 5th round picks that I'm sure were complete afterthoughts to most fans, and see what they have turned in to. You never know when you're going to find that next young stud that really excels when he gets to the pro level. I'm not oblivious to the obvious, but many guys that are considered "camp fodder" by some, turn out to be very nice finds due to good quality scouting and taking advantage of an opportunity when you see someone become available. Having a long term outlook by your front office staff is a solid way to become a perennial contender. Whether it's this kid or the next one, who knows, but I do have faith that Pace is a new era GM that keeps that eye open for new young talent.
well, his idea was to get his paycheck and sit at home, on his leather couch, watch some NFL football on Gamepass, but not the Browns, nobody really likes the Browns
Sadly it seems that some former Browns players don't even like the Browns. Maybe some current ones too. I don't think the Bears will ever be in that category. They may suck at times, but except under Emery/Trestman, I have never seen the kind of dysfunction the Browns have.
Reading between the lines on this saga, it's pretty obvious this guy simply wanted out of Cleveland. My understanding is that Williams should be ready to play soon and will delay having his bone spurs operated on until after the season. It seems to me that Pace got us help at CB in the cheapest and best way possible given the situation. There are no players available at this point who don't have at least a wart or two on their record.
The Bears have been in search of help for a cornerback and wound up landing one Tuesday afternoon that some league observers figured was worthy of a draft pick, which general manager Ryan Pace did not have to sacrifice.
The Bears claimed K’Waun Williams off waivers from the Browns and in the process got an experienced slot cornerback that had fallen out of favor with the new regime in Cleveland.
The Browns suspended Williams before the first preseason game after a disagreement over how injured he was. Williams said his ankle was too sore to play against the Packers and that is when things got sideways between him and the organization. Williams sought a second opinion on his ankle and received a cortisone shot, according to a source. He is suffering from bone spurs, the source said, and could ultimately require surgery. The hope is if he can handle the pain and that surgery will wait until the offseason.
It sounds like the Browns wanted him to play and he thinks he is being pushed to play when he should be in treatment for his bone spurs. I read in the article that Soul linked that he got a 2nd and a 3rd opinion and he has pretty significant bone spurs in his ankle . The question is can he contribute this season without surgery? Or can he undergo a simple scope and be back in 2 or 3 weeks?
The Bears claimed cornerback K’Waun Williams Tuesday, a day after Williams was waived by the Browns.
Williams had been suspended by the Browns for violating team rules in a spat over his health and availability to play. The Bears acquiring Williams is contingent on Williams passing a physical, which BearReport.com reported is set for Wednesday.
The report said Williams got a cortisone shot last week and wants to hold off on surgery to remove bone spurs in his ankle until after the season. Williams and his agent disagreed with the Browns about his injury, and an outside medical opinion recommended surgery.
Williams made the Browns as an undrafted rookie in 2014 and has played in 13 games, mostly as a nickel cornerback, in each of his first two seasons.
That's pretty much of what I got out of all of it too chuck. My guess is they feel Callahan my be out for a bit yet and wanted some experienced backup the only question is can he help now or not. The physical today should answer that.

This is kinda my take on the whole deal too. He didn't want to play in the preseason opener because he was in some pain due to the bone spurs but still hadn't been evaluated medically as far as his options. But even lacking that the Browns said you'll play and he refused so they suspended him for two weeks.
In the meantime he continues to complain and allows himself to be sidelined and basically wins the battle to get his release because he A) no longer trusts the team, and B) won't risk his career in that mess. Now he feels like he has an option to either play with the problem and deal with it after the season or have the surgery now and sit out while he heals and rehabs.
I'm sure the Bears didn't pick him up just to add one more guy to the IR or PUP. That's why he's saying he'll play and all the Bears want to know is whether or not he's medically cleared to do it and can play the entire season with the bone spurs before he has his surgery.

The Browns make the Bears under Emery/Trestman look competent.
