"Perfect" Garoppolo trade proposed by Greg Gabriel

I see Gabe is using a similar rationale to what Ric is but I don't buy it.  I don't feel the Pats want to trade Garoppolo at all but they may have no choice if it's get something for him or nothing if he signs elsewhere as a FA.

While Gabe makes an issue of Brady age what he doesn't acknowledge is that Brady is signed through 2019 and that all of his money is guaranteed.  With cap hits of $22 mil each in 2018 and 2019 it's doubtful the Pats can kep both QBs which led to the drafting of Brissett who will still be playing under his rookie deal through 2019 as well.

So I would suggest that talent is not the issue at all but rather affordability.  If they could find a way to keep him I believe they would but from here that doesn't seem likely and if Belicheat also realizes it he's gonna do what he can to max out a return for him in trade if he goes that route.

I also don't believe what Matt Cassel or any other former NE Q did or didn't do after leaving NE is more relevant than the value JG may have to a team in need of a young starter.  If he was worth a late 2nd round pick 3 years ago he's worth that much or more now and if you'd have drafted him at that spot 3 years ago then you'd give at least that much for him now.  I'm sure Belicheat hasn't "ruined" him so where's the depreciation gonna come from them.

I posted a possible trade using a similar formula only with as high as 2nd and 2018 conditional pick that would be scaled based on JGs success and the success of the team.  As Gabe says if he comes up a winner then the price will be worth it and so will a longer term contract extension but doing it this way tempers the risk in the event he doesn't hit it big.
