John Fox says no changes coming in the coaching staff by Lorin Cox
Albert Einstein is credited with defining insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results each time.
Chicago Bears fans better hope John Fox doesn't fit that definition, as he revealed Thursday that he plans to bring back his entire coaching staff that led his team to just three wins through 15 games this year.
"It’s not like I’m going to make changes," Fox told the media, via Adam Hoge. "It’s just the nature of the beast."
The nature of the beast is evidently bringing back an offensive coordinator who said he'd "like to accumulate more snaps and more carries" for Jordan Howard but still can't seem to figure out how to give him the ball more than 15 times a game.
The nature of the best is also apparently retaining a staff that was quick to bench young players like Jordan Howard and Harold Jones-Quartey early in the year but continues to trot out duds like Josh Bellamy and Mitch Unrein every week, despite having more promising options available.
Certainly, some individual position coaches have shown a lot of value for their ability to develop players, namely outside linebackers coach Clint Hurtt, who has molded a raw Leonard Floyd into a ferocious threat when healthy.
That being said, it's hard to be satisfied across the board with what this coaching staff has done with the roster this season, making it all the more head-scratching that Fox would publicly commit to his whole staff before Week 17, instead of taking the time this offseason to look back on the year and find where changes need to be made.
"Albert Einstein is credited with defining insanity as doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results each time."
Looks like Fox has decided for Ryan Pace that he'll be back even before that January 4th presser. If I was Pace I'd be pissed but what the hell it's obvious who runs the show now if A) Fox will be back after two years ending at 9-23, and B) The entire staff will return with him without even a consideration for any changes.
Has Pace even been allowed to wear "big boy" pants yet or does he dress like Angus Young?
IMHO comments like Fox's and furthermore actions like Fox's are only performed by the terminally arrogant and those whose common sense has totally failed them. Even better the lack of humility long a Fox trait is either pissing in the face of those who hired him or is coming from a guy who knows his contract has them by the short hairs and he feels he can't be fired.
I'd do it anyway just to spite him.
Anyway, here's lookin' forward to another year of Bears insanity. BOHICA!
Why would he want to change anything? It's all working to perfection. It's all injuries.
And besides we are much closer than the fans think. I think Emery thought the same thing. As did Lovie. However the fans saw stagnation when the powers that be were too close to see it. It just might be that we are further than John Fox thinks.
We will get more talent. And unfortunately, while that will raise the bar, we will still underperform relative to that next bar. Prove me wrong John. I would love to be wrong on this. Otherwise one more year of frustration and potentially one more year of hoping for a high draft pick. I don;t want to do that any more. I want to start winning games and see us play in the playoffs.
I don't want to re-write this so I copied a response I made from another thread. I'd be very pleased to hear from anyone who can interpret this much differently than I have and please give your reasons because I'm lacking any that don't add up to what I've posted.
Now even a full week ahead of the presser Fox has I guess declared himself as returning along with this entire staff so why the **** are we even paying a GM if Fox can hire or fire himself at will. Seems like a huge waste of even more precious McCaskey capital to me. Read the thread, no changes, none.
"“It’s not like I’m going to make changes,” Fox told the media, via Adam Hoge. “It’s just the nature of the beast.”
If this whole ordeal had been scripted by Shakespeare it might be known as one of his greatest tragedies. Even the mere fact that Fox won't even take the time to evaluate the performance of his own staff should tell you all you need to know since this doesn't even require reading between the lines at all. This one is as good of a smoking guns as it gets.
"IT'S JUST THE NATURE OF THE BEAST"
Intepretation; This whole season is gonna get blamed on everyone and everything BUT ME and my staff because I hired them and that would reflect on ME as well. Butkus this is the old when backed into a corner show no weakness defense. It's also a variation in what he pulled in Denver when he wanted Elway and fans to be happy with simply winning the AFCW with a team built to win the Super Bowl and who did the very next year post Fox.
Shoot, our POTUS elect should have had Fox for a running mate. They make a good pair. Both remind me of the Wizard of OZ. "Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain. I am the Great and All Powerful Wizard of OZ". He was another legendary snake oil salesman. Welcome to a preview of 2017.
BOHICA
“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.”
I read that too. Even The Logg is going to be back. We don't control any of this so I'm not going to let it get me down.
I am super curious to see what happens in 2017. The fans are angry and want people fired. The people here on this board are divided on how much of this season's failure was due to the injury factor alone. Well. Now we are going to find out. None of us really knows for sure. But in 2017 we will have our players healthy again and an infusion of new talent, with the same coaching staff. There will be player changes too. Some like AJ may not be back.
If this team fails then some can claim we got it right and knew it would happen. If the team does well, then it will make Pace look like a genius. And there will be a lot of crow eaten here.
Like I said, I'm not going to let this bother me. I con't control it. I will just pop up the popcorn and watch the show. Hey, crazy things happen in the NFL. It might just work.
We do have some outstanding position coaches and a solid DC. Dave Magazu is my hero this year :-)
With a super young team now, maybe it will be good for some of these new players to have continuity for another year. Add the new draftees into the mix, and hopefully a few KEY free agents - and we could see something good come out of this.
Like I said in the other post. We don't control this. And maybe, just maybe it does work out for the best. You never know.
People are going to talk all offseason about the # of players on IR, and I'm going to wonder how many really needed to be there. And how much of that was done to press home how much of a problem the injuries were.
