in 2018 Garoppolo's rookie deal is up... and...he probably becomes unaffordable...So I see a convergence of needs and goals just over the hill for the Pats.Brissett is a rookie so that buys them more time to work that deal out and devlop him whereas with Garoppolo the candle burns out after 2017 when they will have to make a decision more under duress than they will be this spring. Obviously if Garoppolo is their next Brady they'll try like seven devils to keep him but Belicheat is not gonna jeopardize his winning streak putting more cap into his QBs than he can reasonably afford at the expense of the rest.
...it comes down to whether or not ...Pace see(s) more talent and upside in Jimmy G than he does...the draft prospects ranked as 1st round picks...If we were to draft Trubisky at #3 we'll spend 2200 points of draft capital vs the 820 a current and future 2nd are worth...
... Anyone here who doesn't believe Garoppolo is a better prospect than Barkley or Hoyer needs to go watch his game tapes. That's all I'm saying.
Pace ultimately needs to do something (multiple things) with the QB situation. He's in a precarious position. I'm not envious.
Ultimately, I'm not opposed to trading for Jimmy G. for a high 2nd and a 4th if Pace isn't liking what's available early in the draft. Might be the safest/best move.
That way they can evaluate him for a year before paying him bucks (or letting him go) and they can bolster some of the other talent deficiencies in the draft and FA.
I'm sure the Browns and 49ers (and others) are thinking the same thing. Trading for Jimmy G. would allow them to grab Garrett or another defensive stud in the first.
If Sam Bradford or a largely untested vet like Jimmy G are worth 800 plus points what is a vet whose better than Bradford and far more experienced than JG worth when even his contract isn't over priced compared to what similar QB are getting?
I don't disagree that Garoppolo represents some risk but when I look at all of his tools he's a fit and even in college he has the pedigree of a winner and that type tends to be motivated to stay that way. Basically if Fox won't play a rookie anyway why should we spend the #3 overall pick on that guy when we have other needs for starters elsewhere. And if we spend that 2nd round pick on a QB I don't want to hear an argument that says Brad Kaaya is a better choice than Jimmy G. I don't even want to get into Kaaya's fit for us.
