I"ll start with the best summary of what its like to be a Bears fan.
whole tweet:
"The toughest part about yesterday’s #Bears game is that we, the fans, are never surprised anymore by these results.
They can start 4-2, they can add plenty of talent, but this org has taught it’s fans to always guard themselves against the worst case scenario. This was just one more bad loss, of which we’ve seen plenty.
Feels like nothing about that attitude will change until we’re 3 years into a good regime. One year won’t be enough (Nagy), it’ll take 3 to fully prove it’s real to fans. That’s a long time, and we don’t even know if the next regime will be the good one — the last 3 or 4 haven’t.
“Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me”. Call this post depressing, but past a certain point it’s on us (the fans) for thinking things would ever be different.
Somehow, some way, the Bears always end up back in this place — this dysfunctional, blame-game ridden place where December football is less about meaningful results and more about just getting through ugly games in preparation for “next year, when things will be better”.
Will they be though? I’m losing faith by the game. If Eberflus is fired, I don’t want to sell myself on Kliff Kingsbury, Kellen Moore, or Doug Pederson. If he’s not, what are we doing here? And do we have to wait 8 more brutal games to see any change?
Tough morning, but not unexpected. I think that’s the worst part — it’s never truly “unexpected” anymore. It’s just The Cycle, and we’re in its 3rd year."
huh? Hell, I was hoping that an enlightened, empowered president would not feel threatened by an experienced, power coach. And wouldn't the coach encroach more on the GM than the president? I'm kind of confused about this. So a good football president is actually a detriment rather than being advantageous? If that is the case, what good is having a football minded president. I'm not really buying into this unless you have an insecure and weak president. Warren did not strike me as being like that, but I don't know what to think about him any more

BIH, I boil it down to this. If the new football operations guy, President/CEO Warren, truly is afraid to hire the best coaches possible - then the dysfunction of this broken franchise will continue. There is no hope. We are the modern version of the old Lions teams of the past that failed year after year for decades. Coaching will continue to fail here. Caleb Williams will fail here like the past 40+ starting quarterbacks did.
If we don't see something different/better now that Warren and Poles are here, then I'm out as a Bears fan. I do like watching the game of football played at a high level (I've always loved the game, even at a local high school level here in our town). I'm not going to continue to watch crappy Bears teams if the franchise is still unwilling to fix obvious things that are screaming for fixing - this isn't rocket science as far as what needs to be done here... anyway, I'll not get upset. But if (at the end of this season) the Bears continue the madness, then I will choose another NFL team to follow... the irony is that it might just be the Lions. I like what they've done there. I understand the pain their fans have endured for decades there too. Good to see something good come of that franchise now.

I can't do that. I am a Bears fan and the players deserve support. They can't help being drafted by the Bears and their struggles to win are something (IMO) to be supported. I don't support management if that happens, but will always be a Bears fan.

It's all good if the team (finally) begins to do right things here. But if at the end of this season they just continue the madness, then I'm out. I'm an old guy who has been a Bears fan for over 60 years now. Why on earth would I want to continue to waste time watching bad football on game days? LOL, I'm a slow learner because I probably should have made the change many years ago. But better late than never. But hopefully the Bears DO change at the end of the season and the off-season. Hire a competent coach and fix the offensive line. That is so doable. But the Bears may choose to do otherwise as they have in the past. If they do then I'm not even going to be upset about it. Sad? Yes. But I will pick another franchise and enjoy life more on gamedays. LOL, you folks here will be free of my posts too... a win for the messageboard because admittedly I'm wrong more than I'm right on this stuff here . But hopefully Warren/Poles do the right thing and I'm still on the Bears bandwagon in 2025 and beyond.

It boils down to what Warren feels his job is. Is he running all aspects the franchise and providing cover for Poles OR is he running football operations as 1a and the rest (stadium and building revenue) as 1b?
If its the second, than Warren not wanting a full control coach could be a problem.
I'm not sure we understand what Warren's role is or what he was brought in to do or what he assumes his job is.
I've always thought the his job (like Phillips before him) was to smooth the way for the GM (who actually has the job of running the day to day team aspect of the the franchise) AND do everything the teams needs beyond the day to day running on the team. Stadium, politics, league meetings, overseeing merch development, hiring, PR, HR, communications department etc etc. Poles goes to Warren for final approval on firings ,signings and trades and its generally a rubber stamp. Most importantly, he's the backstop between ownership and Poles.
If Warren thinks his job includes day to day operations, then he's operating as president AND GM.
What could be an issue is a power struggle between Poles and Warren (AND I'M NOT SAYING THERE IS ONE NOW OR THAT THERE WILL BE) over the coaching staff.
Who knows? One thing is certain. Take the most dysfunction plan you can think of, and that will be how the Bears operate.

I turned the game into background yesterday as I grilled and cooked. I'll actively watch the GB game but after that, it will be less and less an event I plan my Sunday around. Until the offseason. Just like the past 20 years of the Bears. I post alot in the offseason, less so during the draft because I'm not a draftnik, pick up again during OTAs and camp, and then slowly step away as they drain the life out of my Sunday afternoons. But I'll be back full force in FEB...just in time for them to hire Pederson as HC,
