MITCH AND JUSTIN SUCKED AND NEITHER OF THEM ARE EVER GONNA BE FRANCHISE STARTERS
The sad fact is that Caleb won't either if the Bears break him. And yes, that is entirely possible. Not arguing that Mitch and Justin had the raw talent of Caleb - they were not that talented. My only point is that these players are not unbreakable. And right now the Bears are risking a breakage of the best raw talent quarterback they have ever drafted here. I don't expect anyone to agree with me about QBs being broken. But I will always always always believe that is a real thing here with the Bears.

I'll put it this way, JABF:
Put these QBs with a proper HC/OC and a decent OL (I won't name any names) and...
Mitch & Justin would probably be mid-to-lower-tier starters. Remember both of them have gone to solid organizations that know how to coach offenses and QBs (Buffalo & Pitt) and neither of them has has a career resurgence like Goff did in Detroit.
Put CW in that same situation and he would be competing for OROY right now. His ceiling is WAY HIGHER.

Buit it's like an Indiana Jones movie. He is in that room where the ceiling is being cranked down and down until it crushes you

I agree with you on that. My only point is that coaching matters and we've had more than our share of bad ones - and we watch the outcome of that with our quarterbacks. I've often thought to myself that if Mahomes, or even Tom Brady had been drafted by the Bears - what would their careers have looked like? Think about that. My honest belief is that they would not be the Hall of Fame level quarterbacks that they were. Talent is the most important attribute for a franchise QB, but coaching does matter too. It can make or break a young college kid coming to a team as their quarterback. I can see how this will end with Caleb Williams here if the team fails (again) to set a QB up for success. He will bust and we'll be saying he never had the talent to begin with (us Bears fans have refined the rationalization process and the denial to the highest level here). We will delude ourselves that these QBs "never had it" to begin with and look for the next draft to magically fix this franchise that is so horribly broken. It is how we roll here as Bears fans.
Quotes like "Mitch was never this bad" are the perfect reason why rank and file meatball fans should never be permitted to give an opinion about this team.
They should stay at the Buffalo Wild Wings where they belong, go into the bathroom, fantasize about the waitress who made eye contact with them, and think about the 7 step parlay they made on their betting app that has a 1 : 1,000,000,000,000 chance of paying off.
I was thinking the same thing.
Even though CW is playing poorly right now, he is more talented than Mitch and Justin combined as a passer. He needs a competent OC and a better OL and he will be fine.
Let me say this for the 754th time:
MITCH AND JUSTIN SUCKED AND NEITHER OF THEM ARE EVER GONNA BE FRANCHISE STARTERS
Fields had poor OLs also but people made the narrative that he held the ball too long.
There are a lot of reasons, that have nothing to do with Justin Fields himself, about why he did not work out in Chicago.
Caleb is perfectly capable of becoming a good NFL QB that ends our search for the next ten years. We need to give him a winner at HC and an OL and he will be fine.

+1 The frustrating part for fans is the fact that this is so fixable. It is doable. But the franchise seems snake bit and fail by making the same mistakes over and over again. The Bears can fix the OL... it really isn't THAT tough to do because the team has the resources to do just that. Hiring a good coach is more difficult. But the team has whiffed on a lot of coaches spanning a lot of years now... that shouldn't happen.

Ryan Poles has to know that if he doesn’t fix the OL for 2025 that he too will be fired. I don’t enjoy saying that because I like Ryan Poles and I respect that he inherited a total disaster. However if he doesn’t acquire two solid starters for that OL between the draft and FA he has to go.
For coaching, I believe that the McCaskeys will pay a HC, but what kind of HC will they pay?
Will they be willing to bring in Dave Toub who is a winner and most likely (IDK) has strong opinions about what to do.
Or do they pay a Whiz Kid like Johnson and we have to go through the growing pains of a first time HC again?
I do believe that Ryan Poles will fix the line. He has to in order to remain employed so therefore he will.
However, what are we going to get at HC? Because if that’s messed up it doesn’t matter what players we have.

I am at the point of total despair with these guys. I just told my brother this morning that I'm thinking of canceling my season tickets. The only thing holding me back is that it is a fun thing for us to do (or should be) a bunch of weekends every year when we visit our mom and other relatives. Neither of us live in the Chicago area anymore.
I'm that fed up and I have been a STH a long time.
It looks like there are gonna do next to nothing today. Maybe take play calls away from Waldron and call it good. The Bears always half-ass things and seem to be terrified of decisive action. 95% of other NFL organizations would have fired Flus/Wal at 9am w/o even breaking a sweat because the decision is so obvious. There is nothing to be gained by keeping these guys around and much to be lost.
I really thought and hoped that Poles and (especially) Warren were gonna bring real change. It doesn't appear that way. It seems to me, please prove me wrong, that Warren is nothing more than a figurehead and his only role is to negotiate a stadium deal. He seems to have no interest in or power over actual football operations.
Ownership has a "type" they seem to want in HCs and they stubbornly refuse to alter course. They want quiet, low-key, yes-man types who keep a low profile and don't cost too much in terms of salary demands. And they will stick with those guys long after it is clear they aren't very good at their jobs simply because ownership is too cheap to eat the remaining contract and spend the money required to hire an actual talent for the position.
Time and time again, the "ownership committee" in effect hires the HC and dumps him on the GM. They did that with Fox and Pace and they did it again with Flus and Poles. Poles was given a pre-screened list of 3 candidates and told to chose. The fact that Flus was hired officially only 3 days into Poles' tenure tells you he had no real say in the process. This happens constantly. There is constant ownership meddling in football ops and of course, well intentioned or not, George and Ted are not qualified NFL level football guys.
If they let Flus ride out the rest of the season, I predict right now we will go 1-7 the rest of the way. We are gonna get blown out and embarrassed multiple times by good teams with far superior coaching staffs. Then in January they will finally agree to let Poles/Warren fire Flus and again they will meddle in the process and force them to pick another uninspiring milquetoast HC candidate who will accept a lowball contract.
And there's a 95% chance that guy will prove to be a failure too. Nothing ever changes.

umm....I saw Mitch play and....um....no, He wasn't better. He couldn't beat out Mason Randolph or any of those other backup QBs the Steelers had before signing Wilson. In fact, Pitts signed Wilson coming off the Denver years rather than resign Mitch.
So....to quote and old WSCR meme....Who you crappin?

We'll see if Caleb can beat anyone out when he's gone from the Bears, shuffled off to obscurity too.
