Most of us seem to be on the same page but I do see a few things in a slightly different way. I am sure I am not the only person on this forum that has been privileged enough to be able to call the shots in their career so would be interested in other viewpoints as well.
First, I have never met George (obviously) but he has always struck me as an executive that tries to put people in place, empowers them and wants them to run the organization with his being as purposely hands off ownership as he can be. So I differ in saying that I do believe Poles had free rein to hire who he wanted as HC.
I do believe that being new and having to pick someone with ownership having already expended resources to get down to a few candidates, time being short and not wanting to tell ownership in his first act that they had wasted their time, he went and interviewed the three candidates. He really had no choice but to do that. Then he probably liked Flus. If he didn’t have a “got to have” guy at this point, he went with one of the choices he liked. And let’s be real. Who doesn’t want to hire a nice guy to work with if you think he can do the job. The homework had been done. Ownership was behind any of the three, time was short, he probably saw no glaring red flags and if he didn’t have his own for sure guy, I get it. I don’t blame him. Now keeping him last year is a different discussion, but I get the hire.
As far as Warren, the book has not been completely written and a good exec is going to stay in the background, provide counsel and direction when needed. I also want to say he is needed now. This whole stadium thing has thrown me for a loop. I thought we were the cat that ate the canary when we hired Warren. So far, I see an empty suit politician type that is a superb orator.
But I still hold out hope he is maneuvering for a better deal on AH. However, I do believe he wants to stay in the city. I think that is a bad decision if true. I am giving him til the end of 25 and if nothing happens, I am off the Warren train.
I also want to see if the decision to keep Flus happens. It might be Poles call, but if Warren does not override it, then again I’m off the Warren train. However, because of the dollar impact, that one is going to need ownership approval. Warren might say get rid of him and get overridden. I think at this point, a lot depends on George’s opinion of both Warren and Poles and what counsel they give him.
I can’t predict but think Flus will be gone. I do like Toub but since I am wrong more than right, all I care about is that the so called experts get it right
