"Unpacking a few things about the final drive of the Bears-Commanders game
1. Chicago had 3 timeouts and did not use any of them ahead of the Hail Mary attempt to set up the final play.
2. The Bears did not defend the out route by Terry McLaurin on the 2nd to last play. That was a 13 yard gain that got them to midfield to set up the Hail Mary attempt. That gave Washington a chance to reach the end zone.
3. The design up front/decision to rush 3 can be justified...but why is T.J. Edwards spying Jayden Daniels? He said postgame that his responsibility was to spy Daniels "in a way." Still confused by that.
4. For those asking - Montez Sweat was not on the field because he had a questionable designation to return with a shin injury at around the 6:21 mark (it was announced at the same time as Teven Jenkins' injury). It was an injury Sweat sustained in the 1st Q. But it was not to the level of severity where he was ruled out.
5. Still unclear who should have been the last player back as the 'backboard' in lock step with Noah Brown/to be the last line of defense."
I have a feeling we'll look back on this particular game as the one that finally ended the Eberflus era here in Chicago. We have 10 games left to play but I'm thinking he's a goner now.
I don’t know… I mean it’s a valid question. I was comparing them myself during the game. I actually do think that Jaylen might be ahead right now. He is throwing for more yards and has less errant throws while seeming to be right there with Williams in the mental part of the game. Not ready to say one is better than the other and they are both only a part of the way through their first season. How they both end up won’t be determined by where they are now but if I had to pick, yeah I’d say Jaylen is ahead at this point. But I’m not going to worry about whether other QBs are better or worse or if we get the best of the litter. My only concern is whether or not we got a franchise QB that we can win with and while it’s still early, CW certainly fits that criteria for me

+1 He is ahead of CW at this point. My hope is that Caleb will get better over time. He has immense raw talent. I think he'll benefit from better coaches in 2025. The downside is that he'll need to learn a new playbook and schemes. But in the long run (if the Bears can finally get the coach hire right this time) he will have the people who can help him reach his full potential at the NFL level.
But yeah, right now Jaylen Daniels > Caleb Williams. But that may change with time.

Coaching matters. And that's all I have to say about it. At least until I cool down. And that might take a while.
