By the time our 9th pick came around the top two OTs were off the board. Are you suggesting we should have taken an OT prospect who went several picks below #9 instead of Odunze? IMO Odunze could easily be the best WR in the 2024 draft and we have a 1st and 2 2nd round picks next year.
Another option we may have in the future for our interior OL is a practice squad play, Theo Benedet. Take a look at his UBC highlights on YT. The kid is an absolute beast when he gets to the 2nd level in blocking. A year in an NFL conditioning program and an additional 15 lbs could put him as a really solid OG prospect.
I'm saying, and I've been saying for several years now. OL OL OL OL OL. And I also said you don't need multiple special WR's and TE's you need OL also rookie WR struggle year one.
trade back and get more picks and fix the OL or take the best OL at 9. Also 9 wouldn't matter if they had bothered to fix the OL in the 2 years prior. Odunze only made since if you don't have DJ or didn't re sign DJ. BPA is a dumb way to build a team, it's how you end up w/a top 5 Def and a bottom 5 O.
I was on the "trade back train" but the decision was made to take CW as our #1 pick. Inherent in that (at least IMO that is) is we defer fixing some positions. I am not saying that taking CW was either good or bad. Just that trading back from the #1 pick was a requirement to get all the resulting lower round picks needed to fix the OL (as well as other things).

I was talking of trading back from 9. I get Odunze will be special eventually, but you don't need 2 special WR's and a special TE. It's to many mouths for a qb, especially a young QB, to feed anyways. A strong OL is far more important than a strong WR room for an Offense.
It's done now but the team was built like it's played on paper not on the field, and it's going to create long term issues for it. Minny and other top defenses are going to salivate getting to massacre a young qb w/no real protection.

I wouldn't call Kmet or DJ "special". DJ is VERY good...but he's not special. Justin Jefferson is special. Kmet is REALLY good, but he isn't special.

Then we can disagree, but the Bears didn't bring DJ to Chicago, and pay him what they did b/c they think he's "very good". 100% disagree w/Kmet, he's a rare TE that can be a positive in the passing game and blocking.

I disagree, you need to have good WR's to throw too. We've said that for years and many people even said DJ Moore wasn't enough for Fields. You don't need 3 great WRs but one of them is 32 and clearly not the future. Going Odunze with the #9 overall pick was the right move. The only oline that was worth it was Alt that high. I can see Odunze being a top 10 WR for years to come. You may hate it but WR is a premium position in today's NFL.
Unfortunately, Sports Mockery is not a reliable source of Bears news or rumors.
If you take it for what it is, and isn't, it can be useful. It is trying to make a story out of someone else's story. If it is a topic that I find interesting (some are and some are not) then I go to the original story. In that sense I find SM useful. I just click on the link to read the original stuff. But if it were not for SM, I'd miss some of those articles.

I think you may confuse special and very good.
Travis Kelce is a special TE. Rob Gronkowski was a special TE in his prime.
Tyreek Hill is a special WR. Same as Justin Jefferson.
You can't put Kmet or Moore anywhere close to them. Moore is top 15ish WR in the NFL. Kmet may be closer to top 10ish for TE.

i never said you didn't you just don't need a bunch of them. Name the teams w/qb's putting up big numbers that have equal to better weapons then the bears? you won't find many, if any. Hou/DC definitely don't.

I'm just hoping we see the Bears make a serious investment in the offensive line next year. Trying to cobble together an offensive line on the cheap is gonna be a hard one to swallow next year. Trying to look like the smartest guy in the room by doing 5th round "solutions" like Larry Borom and Braxton Jones, is not the way to go. No more mediocre veterans signings like Nate Davis, Bates & Shelton. The Davis money might as well been flushed down the toilet for all the good it did the team. And don't extend Jenkins if he can't play on gamedays. He is zero use to the team if he can't play. And he hasn't looked so good this season when he did play. Build an oline around the one guy who looks like he at least has legit raw talent - RT Wright, the 1st round pick guy.
I'm hoping Poles is the guy to get this done. And getting it done right is more than just talking about how he values the OL. Fix it. Get it done. Right.
