As I said on the board when everyone wanted to get rid of Leno...thats cool...tell me who you're replacing him with. Just cause you replace someone, doesn't mean you're replacing them with someone better. A high draft pick is no guarantee.
Replaced him w/a cheaper version of hismelf.
problem is they keep biting from the same tree, mid-UDFA ever going to be greats.
People said the same thing about Cutler, and Mitch and Fields, keeping mid to bad is worse then replacing them w/more mid and bad. Keeping taking shots until you get it right. for LT that should be rd 1, maybe 2. QB/DE/OT those are your key positions, get them fixed and the rest fall into place a lot easier. Or, be like Det, and take back to back to back WR's in the top 10 b/c "bpa" and see how that works out for ya(hint more top picks that lead to top 5 picks). bad gm's go into the draft going bpa unless the team is already getting to the sb.
We technically replaced him with a worse version which led to us having to sign Jason Peters off his fishing boat at the end of training camp. The original replacement was hurt and then couldn't even play right tackle, let alone left tackle....which is why he's playing guard right now. The replacement for the replacement was Elijah Wilkinson and then Peters. Talk about bad offensive line play!
It's often the same with firing coaches or GMs. Getting rid of people is easy. The hard part is getting better people to replace them. All too often the replacements are worse than the guys you moved on from.
Well, I view that as an issue of the people who are deciding who to hire. They make a bad hire, then that person needs replacing and the person that couldn't pick someone good goes and picks again.
The one guy who can’t be fired is the owner. If he is incompetent AND sticks his nose into every decision, the franchise is screwed. I am hoping that Warren is competent AND he is allowed to do his job.

I am not as concerned about the ownership as some are. I genuinely believe they just want to build a winning team and don't know how to do it. Over the years, they have tried various consultants, etc. They try. I don't think they are micromanaging anyone. There has always been Phillips in the mix and I believe that has been a problem. That, and when hiring people, the affinity for "nice guy, corporate types" has been a problem. That is where I think George has come in. They have a person type they feel comfortable with (which is why they never looked at Harbaugh IMO). But I don't think he really gets involved or wants to. I really do believe it is a Poles and Warren show. Whether or not they are up to it is still up in the air. I like what Poles has done. Definitely not perfect but head and shoulders better than we have had for a while. I have also been super high on Warren until his fascination with the lakefront. He really has me double guessing his judgement at this point.

I agree with this completely. In fact, this was the only thing that brought my back to this board. I sincerely hope the McCaskey's have sworn off getting involved in most/all of the personnel and day to day management decisions.
I really hope they can make the new stadium work (and personally prefer the old race track location). Because it is the only solution currently on the table that can really produce a significant increase in revenue. IMO this is what the team needs in order to keep all the mouths they feed in the family happy. Otherwise the franchise will end up going down the drain because we need the increased revenue in order to support the continued acquisition and development of new players, coaches and franchise staff. I believe that the desire/need to squeeze revenues out of the team is what cause Mike McCaskey to destroy what Jim Finks and Jerry Vanisi built in the early 1980's.

My question with Warren is whether he is uncompromisingly focused on Super Bowl as he says. We will find out in the next 2-3 years. Or will he be satisfied to become the next Dallas Cowboys. As I told JABF, I don’t want that.

I have questions about Warren myself. I was very much in his camp until he developed what I think is almost an obsession on a lakefront stadium. It is almost like he is living in a dream world where he is repeating what he considers his big success in Minnesota.

But Peters was in fact better then both, even off retirement off his boat. Which goes to prove why you don't waste time w/mid lvl LT's. Go out and draft or pay top dollar to find or get elite LT play. Go out and try and get a Jason Peters in the draft or coming off his rookie deal, stop getting Webb/Leno/Jones level and just going, huh this will do for now while we address other areas. F that, the only areas that matter more then the LT is QB and DE, the Bears have a QB and DE, now go and get that LT, enough stalling or making excuses for accepting limited LT play.

I believe they want to win, but as you said, they just don't know how to do it. I don't hate them... actually I like Virginia and think she's a classy lady. And a number of the people who failed here over the years, that they hired, I liked too. They just couldn't win.

+1 LOL, he's beginning to remind me of that old movie, "The Caine Mutany" where Captain Queeg wanted a quart of strawberries so badly that he has a paranoia mental breakdown... that line from the old movie, “Ah, but the strawberries!” could be an apt description of Warren now, "Ah, but the Lakefront"
