Well Poles shown a complete disregard of having a quality OL, let alone a dominant, so I'm not sure that really is a positive or proof of a point.
How would you compare Brax to Charles Leno? I would never call Leno “elite”, but at his prime, I would rather have him on my Super Bowl ready 2025 team than an unknown rookie LT drafted in first round. That’s how I see Brax.
Id say both are replacement level OT's I don't want starting on my team if the goal is playoff wins and SB's.
Stop giving big money contracts to mid level players who play at extremely important positions.
You cannot say out of one side of your mouth about how we have a Super Bowl window while at the same time comparing our LT to Charles Leno of all people while knowing our OL is not good.
The draft capital is there to take a shot at getting a franchise LT which is the second most important position on the football field. Or if we can't afford it because the cost to move up to 5 is too high then let's not act like giving a mid-grade LT a big second contract is a no brainer. That's a great way to build an average football team that resides in cap hell.
So, if the Bears aren’t Super Bowl ready 2025, it won’t be because Brax is still at LT. It will be more about the rest of the OL. Brax has played well this year except for the Rams game. Leno was also underrated by some people around here.
How often does a rookie LT play lights out? That’s a big unknown — much more than Brax in 2025 — my Super Bowl ready window.
Amegadjie is still the wild card in this. I wish they’d give him some snaps so we can have a clue what we have there. It would be reckless to let Brax go and assume Amegadjie can take over the job.
Brax has played better recently. I thought he struggled against Tenn, Houston & LA. Sometimes it was run blocking and some games he struggled more pass protecting. But he has settled down and is looking much better the two most recent games. I figure we should just wait and see how he does the rest of the season (some very solid defenses). I just feel like we will know more regarding him after this 3rd season (for him) is in the books.

Agreed. Also, Brax might be playing with an injury so we do need to wait on judging him.
And contrary to a certain popular opinion, Poles has not completely ignored the O-line. Nate Davis screwed the pooch, Jenkins got injured, Braxton is apparently injured, I think there were other injuries I'm not remembering, and rookies are rookies. A lot of turmoil and shuffling hasn't let the line gel at all. Now after a few games they do appear to be getting better. It does take time. But I do believe a lot of resources will be used to improve the O Line next year. It takes time and resources to rebuild from a complete teardown like we did.
My mother in law passed this past week and we had the services this weekend and today, so I haven't seen the game. How was Brax with his timing and hand placement?

Yes because overpaying one middling LT justifies us paying another.

When did we overpay Charles Leno?
thanfully never. although neither did DC. he's only averaged 12mil. Average money for average play. Find yourself an elite LT that makes you happily pay top end contracts for.

I think I said I reserve the right to change my vote. So butkus and I have been talking about his technique. I watched closely today. He gets in trouble when off the snap he has his feet parallel and the rusher gets in the first punch. That only happened a couple times. When he gets his hands on them right away, gets his pads low, and sets his anchor far back, he holds well. Jenkins was playing better today, and that also helps.

Yeah, too early to judge yet but I'm thinking about building an top-notch wall G-C-G before I worry too much about LT. You aren't gonna get a premier LT prospect in the draft anyway unless we bomb the rest of the season.

Whatever happens by next season they need to throw the entire kitchen sink and solve this once and for all. The first three picks should be OL and the first FA should most likely be OL as well.
Things look like they're on the upswing but things as we've seen can turn on a dime. Even if it's overkill there will be at least a ton of depth.
