This is what happens when the 1s don't get sufficient reps, together as a complete unit, in the preseason. That is 100% on Eberflus.
These OL issues would've been exposed.
Davis needs to be benched. Let's see what we have with Murray and Kiran.
The tolerance of loafing and poor play is also 100% on Eberflus. Set the tone in the locker room. If you suck at your job, then you don't have a job.
Put Jenkins on notice. Get your shit together or we start the other of Murray and Kiran.
Part of the problem, (just part) is that injuries prevented all 5 starters to get much time together this summer and preseason. It hurt the offensive line last year too.

You seeing a pattern here?
It sure looks like it to me. If you mean that it is the 2nd year the OL went into the season without much time together as a 5 man unit. Shelton sucking at C makes the problem even worse because he wasn't supposed to be the starter (Bates was). Bates is on IR. I'm thinking that if the orginal 5 starters (Brax, Jenkins, Bates, Davis, Wright) had the summer camp and preseason together, maybe it would have been an average-level offensive line instead of what we saw in the first two games (and against really stout defenses).
It is reasonable that the unit can work to get the blocking assignment mistakes cleaned up. And the false start penalties need to get cleaned up too. LOL, that is my "glass half full" take on it.

According to Leming on WCG, Bears plan all summer was for Bates to start at Center and Davis at RG in what hopefully would be a bounce-back year.
Than plan went to poo when Nate Davis malingered and didn't want to practice all TC. They had to move Bates to RG and Shelton to C. That became Plan B. Then Bates got hurt and Davis started practicing again shortly after Flus called him out.
Originally they looked at Shelton being the main iOL backup but Nate Davis sucking and Bates getting hurt screwed up everything. You can see now why they were so frustrated with Nate Davis during TC. Flus is Mr. Coach-speak, don't-rock-the-boat 99% of the time so when you heard him being uncharacteristically blunt about Davis during TC, you knew something was up behind the scenes.
It will never be admitted in public, but you can bet Ryan Poles really regrets signing Nate Davis in 2023. That decision has been a total flop and has had cascading negative effects ever since.
That's how we ended u where we are now which is Plan C.
All I can think of is that they are trying to salvage Nate Davis but it's so shaky they're going to have to demote him - and it sure sounded like Pryor looked mighty good in camp at RG. And it the Bears are going to have to shake up the OL unit again, it probably is best to do that now rather than deeper into the season. But, I have no clue. Just spitballing here.

My ideal IOL at this stage looking at 2025:
1. RG: Sign Trey Smith to a 5/125M with 75M guaranteed & a 30M signing bonus. 2. C: Draft USC center Jonah Monheim with our late 2nd. His current stock is all over the place. 3. LG: Resign Tevin Jenkins to a 2/20M with 13M guaranteed & a 7M signing bonus.
With all the issues gotta look at future solutions.

Why is everyone pretending that this OL is a complete mystery, or we've seen enough sample that the final judgement is in? Are they all rookies who are a complete mystery? All UDFA or cast-offs that get no more than a 2 game short rope? The narrative around this is nuts, IMO. We've seen these guys before playing well, and we'll see it again (and better).
1. There are two high draft picks still 23 and 25 years old (Wright and Jenk - and some dummy called Jenk "overdrafted" on WSCR this week, even though he has dominated in the past and recognized as one of the best G in the league!) 2. One FA signing who can be a damn good RG and especially run blocker. Sure, he's a PITA and as it turns out Flus' culture isn't strong enough to convert a jerk. But he isn't "bad" at OL-ing 3. Brax (26) has been considered a draft steal and fast-developing prospect in some circles, and to others he's simply labeled a "finesse tackle".... but reality is he is still super-young and a PROJECT. He was never going to be an all-pro in his first several years, but his upside is still tremendous. He'll improve his base, and in run blocking he's quite good. 4. They signed Bates and Shelton to bring some experience and better play to the C position, and wow we haven't seen it in the new system yet and folks want to call the election with 11% of the vote in. Not wise.
Most of this discussion simply stinks of impatience and lack of perspective. The offense and system are new. The QB is a rookie experiencing his first games at NFL speed and with DCs gunning for him. They hardly played in preseason including having a few weeks off between the final PS game and the regular season. 3 out of the 5 guys are young and/or still learning their position. Shelton will get better. It is unfortunate that Bates is hurt but there are other backups and guess what? A LOT of teams end up playing with a couple of backups during the season - like, almost every team. Welcome to the NFL. EVEN if one or two other FA were brought in, the circumstances strongly suggest that there would still be struggles and adjustments for a while.
I'll maintain that these guys like Belichick and Biggs are just doing their job - commenting on what looks worst to them. They're not bringing some kind of authority to the discussion in the sense that if THEY say something it is gospel and unquestionably true. Yeah the OL has looked worst. But also the WRs have looked bad, and out of synch with Caleb. Swift has looked bad even when the OL hasn't been letting tacklers get to 4 behind the LOS. Caleb has made a lot of rookie mistakes and other than in the quick game still isn't comfortable with his timing and ball placement. Who knows what is happening in the huddle and in the communications around blocking assignments.
It COULD take 5-6 games or even more for all this to gel, folks. So let's not all go around shouting the sky is falling. It is not. WE are unjustifiably impatient with newness.

Hey Bud! Been a while, I finally figured out which board you and TMP were talking about - I had it mixed up with some other board riddled with ads and stuff. Anyhow, I both agree and disagree with your thoughts here. I do agree that this is going to look a lot better soon, last years OL had it's worst game of the season in Week 2 also and then they started playing a lot better as the season wore on. That said, I do not believe last years unit was very good at all. JMO but I think too much blame was placed on Fields for the sack issue, and I think not enough credit was given to Fields for the run game performance. Now we are seeing what the OL looks like with a classic QB, and it hasn't been pretty. This line has never held up in "pure pass pro" or "base run blocking" IMO.
