Those are all failures for sure. But what is refreshing it seems about Poles, and Briggs and Brown brought it up on their show on CHGO, he's very willing to admit a mistake and move on from it. He moved on from Claypool even though he gave up good draft capital to get him. He worked to surround Williams with playmakers when he didn't do that for Fields, etc. I have to believe he'd be willing to move on from Davis if he thought it would improve the team and he'll attack the offensive line this off-season.
But....that's too late. You would have wasted an entire year of CW's development and rookie contract cuz you didn't put together just a adequate OL. I repeat--Poles had the $$ to spend in FA this March and there were iOLs who would have helped.
Yeah, Davis was a huge miss. I think they went into this season thinking losing his mom had a lot to do with his issues last season and perhaps thats just not the case. He missed large chunks of camp and this line just hasn't been able to play together at all. I'm also trying to exhibit some patience. Not every team we face is going to have the DT's Tennessee has or the defensive ends the Texans have. Caleb is a tough kid...he started out his football career playing running back and linebacker. Nate Tice did a nice breakdown of this game of Caleb recognizing defenses and changing protections and plays. Thats pretty good stuff for a rookie QB in his second game ever.
We all would have liked him to throw some money at the IOL...but were you willing to give Robert Hunt more than the $100 mill he got from Carolina? I don't even know who else that was a free agent is performing well cause its not something I really focus on much when I watch games. Same goes for center.
