I agree that the window of opportunity, won't be open forever. What makes me feel a bit sick is the possibility the Bears had the team to finally get it done here in Chicago - except for having the offensive line. Can you imagine what this 3rd year of Poles' tenure here would look like this year if we have a great OL in front of Caleb Williams?
Waldron's offense needs a solid running game to work. Our RB1 averaged 1.3 yards per carry on Sunday. That is not a typo, it really was 1.3 yards per carry. For the season he is averaging 2.0 yards per carry.
Let "that" one sink in.
Surely, even this crap OL can do better run blocking than that, as the team goes into the powder-puff part of the schedule against these winless teams. If they CAN begin to have a run game, then the passing game opens up for the QB... if the OL can figure out blocking assignments better and provide pass protection. Maybe the OL will improve execution, with continued reps together as a unit. Right now we see players not understanding who their blocking responsibility is on plays. The former NFL offensive linemen who commented on the Bears OL woes, pointed out how there will be 2 or even 3 offensive linemen going after the same D player while other rushers are not getting blocked at all. Nothing. Because of missed blocking assignments. Surely THAT can be cleaned up right?
I think it's a sewer full of failures that has contributed to the situation. Some of it is due to lack of player talent on the OL. That on is on the GM not getting it done personnel wise. And yes, surely the coaches share responsibility for the mess too. And in the end, the players themselves are not performing (dumb penalties come to mind here also). Asking any rookie QB to be a day-1 starter is a big ask, even in the best of circumstances - but this is putting a young man in a total no-win situation... a perfect storm of failures around him. It is no wonder the guy seems a bit rattled right now. A veteran would be rattled in this mess too. You can't overcome this kind of mess on your own. If the Bears can only run for 1.3 yards per carry in these powderpuff games, then we will lose to those bad teams too.
