The point of the thread was to give Cam Meredith credit. Seems like some here are taking it like its a Jeffery attack...
Guess you can't use anyone as a benchmark to compare other players to....
Even though this was a lack luster season we got more insight on our rookie players. We found a great hidden gem in Meredith. For an UDFA to pull off 800+ yards in his first real season is crazy. That's with Hoyer and Barkley throwing to him as well.

I remember the chorus was singing loud in the preseason that Cam should be ditched for the rookie Braverman.

You sure didn't hear that from me :-) I am bigtime pulling for him to make it in the NFL.

by the way, thread title is another lie from the OP. He played WR in college FOR TWO YEARS.
Meredith attended Illinois State, he redshirted his first season and then spent the 2011 and 2012 seasons as a backup quarterback. In 2013 he transitioned to Wide receiver and led the team in receptions in both 2013 and 2014. In 2014 he led ISU with 66 receptions for 1,061 yards receiving, with nine touchdowns in 15 games.
Here we go again. Guess I'm never coming back into this thread, the idiots are out in force. If I'm ever named a mod, certain people are being banned the first day. Thats a promise.
EDIT from Brad Biggs: (note: no one is claiming Meredith can't play, but if you actually think Meredith is better than Jeffery than you need serious help. Like stop posting. You are just wrong or you are just trolling and should be banned from the board.)
2. I don’t think Cameron Meredith is ever going to be in the discussion as a legitimate No. 1 wide receiver and reality is he might be a No. 3 or No. 4 in a really good passing attack. But he’s done something impressive this year and he just might lead the Bears in some key categories with only one game remaining. Meredith played in 11 games as an undrafted rookie free agent from Illinois State last season and managed to catch 11 passes for 120 yards. It’s one thing for UDFAs to make a splash. It’s another thing for them to break through that low ceiling and really begin to produce. You will see UDFAs make plays on occasion. You start to get excited about them and then they just tend to disappear. That’s what happens with the majority of them really. They’re undrafted for a reason. But Meredith has gone far above and beyond that, turning in nine receptions for 135 yards and a touchdown. He leads the team with 62 receptions (11 ahead of Alshon Jeffery) and is also tops in yardage with 827 (16 ahead of Jeffery). Meredith and injured tight end Zach Miller lead the team with four receiving touchdowns. Meredith also has a team-high four 100-yard games.
In a season that has gone awry, Meredith certainly fits into the depth chart for 2017 at a position which will have plenty of questions moving toward free agency and the draft.
“Definitely feel like I have made strides,” Meredith said. “Every day I am working to get better and stuff like that. You want the team success as a whole, for sure. But at the same time if you are making plays and getting better, it’s still good.
“You have to keep getting better every day, you never know what you can do in this league until you do it. I just go out there every day and try to make plays. When you start making plays and stuff you start to feel yourself a little bit. So, last year I didn’t have that many plays I made but I definitely knew I could play in the league so it was all about getting out there and doing it.”
The touchdown, a 21-yard strike from Matt Barkley, was really pretty as Meredith accelerated past free safety Will Blackmon to the corner of the end zone for a wide open grab. Good route. Good throw.
I think you just made a case for why you will never be a Mod here.
Personally, I am glad to leave the Mod duties behind. Too much being yelled at for not banning certain people for whatever reason.

The key Benj is to make sure you only let the right people in. After we all saw the fiasco that took place at the old site because of the people let in, Alex set the bar high. Honestly, being a mod on this board is a breeze. Everyone behaves

Meredith has had a stellar season and claiming he's a better WR than Jeffery, while a bit exaggerated, isn't an idiotic comment. Jeffery's struggled to stay healthy the last two years. He also hasn't shown the ability to routinely get open as a #1 receiver against dbl teams. Josh Norman, a top tier DB basically owned Alshon yesterday. So, while Meredith isn't as good a receiver as Jeffery, I think he's a better value as a receiver and, at least the past two years, a more durable receiver whose stock is climbing.
I think this is correct way to look at Meredith as well. As an UDFA he's a steal based on his production and I could see some possibilities of him becoming a valuable player even late last season. But ranking him higher that AJ I can't do.
I think as we push on into the winter months we'll know far more about just what can or will happen with AJ. I don't know that much about his agent but I think if their side is being realistic the 4 game suspension and AJs drop in production have to be looked at as limiting what he can ask for in guarantees.
I think the key will be an agreement that provides ample opportunities for him to earn top 5-10 money but only if the production is there. Asking to get a top 5 offer in guaranteed $$$ based on as much time as he's missed and with his lower production isn't realistic and they should know that too. The only question is will they?

No, the point is how you worded your title motm. Meredith has proven to be a valuable WR but not the best WR on the Bears. That's what your title implied and it was bound to get some flack.
The fact that he actually had Hoyer and Barkley throwing to him probably has helped his stats for two reasons; 1) They were both more accustomed to throwing to him in practice since he was also a backup, and 2) Both QBs tended to ignore AJ far more than they should have at times.
Provided White can actually play to his potential for once, and we keep AJ, I think Meredith will be a very valuable WR in that mix but he's still far more a #3 guy or maybe a rising #2 at best when you compare him to the best in the league and the best does include AJ.
