Why not use rose-colored glasses and drink kool-aid? I say enjoy life while we can!
I'll say this:
Barring excessive injuries, if this team fails to finish above 500, it's a failed season. We have a roster that most rookie QBs could only dream of. We ought to get to 9 wins even if CW has some rookie struggles. If he plays well, 11-12 wins is doable.
Making a WC should be a minimum expectation here. There's 7 playoff spots in each 16 team conference. You only have to be a little better than average to get in.
So GET IN
I’m betting you are right — literally. I bet $100 at our local casino on over 8.5 wins. I can’t imagine losing unless Williams is injured.
Nothing wrong with that. I'd rather approach each season with hope, enjoy the building excitement, and be disappointed in the end then give up hope before the season and see every loss as confirmation that I was "right."
Exactly.
Criticizing fans for being, you know, FANS, is a jerkwad move. Every NFL fan has a right to have the highest hopes for their team. Even if their team is crap. It's what makes being a fan, fun.
You're right about fans being fans, and it being okay. I think what frustrates me is when fans turn on a player, coach or GM - or even a season - early on. Then it's like they "want" the person or team to fail, just so they can say they were right. They do this by putting the person/team under a microscope and magnify every single negative thing they can. It seems like a social media thing.

I think you're going to win that bet. But if we do go the "under" and win fewer games it will be due to the line play being the Achilles heel of the team. But I'm hoping both the OL and DL are going to get it done this year. We should know what we have in this year's OL by the end of the Tennessee game. TN has a really good DL that will try to get to Caleb - and at least pressure him to the point the offense struggles. It will be interesting to watch how Shane Waldron prepares for this. He knows this is coming. The no-brainer is to run the ball effectively... but if the OL struggles to run block (as they did in the preseason at times) that turns the game into a passing game and nothing good will come of that if the OL struggles to protect Caleb.
But - if the DL and OL are solid in this game and this season, then it will be a very very good year and you will easily win your bet.

Yes, there is a fine line between analyzing a situation and stating an opinion based upon that and wanting to be right and finding fault in everything.
Without naming specific topics, there have been recent controversial or Big Decision type things with the Bears recently where the fandom digs in and wants things a certain way because they want to be right.
The microscope you referred to started to come out with Caleb with the painted nails, clothing, and now recently the Heisman and Legos. People should be allowed to express themselves provided they aren't breaking any laws. If Caleb paints his nails, OK fine, just beat the Packers and I'll love him forever.
My hope is that by the time he's done we don't even see Caleb's Heisman Trophy in his trophy case because it's loaded with Super Bowl rings and MVPs.

Bears have so much talent at the skilled positions QB,WR,RB, that this OL will be good enough, if there isn’t a wave of injuries. My 10-12 wins prediction assumes that doesn’t happen. If it does, then we still win 9 if CW is healthy. There are enough weak teams on the schedule this year to pull that off, thanks to our 7-win season last year.

+1 Loved your entire post, but that ^^^ in particular. I totally agree.

I hope you are right, and you could definitely be right. Personally I hope the DL and OL can be at least average this year. As you point out, we have a lot of talent (on defense as well as offense) that can perform well, even with average line play. There is no guarantee that either line will BE average this year... we hope they both will be. And something to consider is that we are not playing those 2023 "weak" teams this year. Just as the Bears improved, they probably all have too. Tennessee is a good example. Believe me. They won't be a weak team on Sunday that rolls over for us. In particular if our OL is below average that DL for the Titans will shut down our offense. It could even be a butt ugly day for Caleb and crew. I hope that is NOT the case though. It's always about "hope" and the "OL" isn't it?
EDIT: I meant to mention this a few days ago. Tom Thayer basically called out Braxton Jones for not getting better/stronger via putting in the work in the weight room. He made it sound like he is not stronger as we hoped. If that is the case then it's going to be a long season (again) of Brax getting killed with the bull rush.
I will say this. As much as I am determined not to get too invested in the hype train until about 4 games in, this will be a ball buster if the season falls apart like all the others. This one just seems primed to do well. So many pieces are in place that we have never had before.
OK, getting back off the train and am watching to see how the season progresses ;-)
Don't worry! There's a place for those who are optimistic but too wounded from the past to fully commit at this time and that's on the "Hype Handcar"!

In 2025, we have four picks in the first three rounds including two in the second. Given that replacing Jenkins with a draft pick is worth $10M+ in cap savings and Braxton Jones is a solid $15M or more given that he's a LT, it would not surprise me if three or all four were linemen in one shape or form.
Would you rather have:
1) Jenkins and Jones 2) $25M to $35M in cap space
Knowing that both of them could be replaced with high grade prospects?

That's a great question. At this point I don't know a definitive answer because I'd like to see the season played and find out how good Braxton Jones is after 3 years of development. After 3 seasons you pretty much know what you have (and don't have) in an offensive lineman. My gut feeling is that Braxton's ceiling is decent, and league average. Nothing wrong with that if you don't pay the guy crazy money to keep. But, I suspect his replacement is already on the roster. And if the Bears weigh his value vs cost and the projected ROI (return on investment) just isn't there, then Brax will walk and the new guy will be the new Brax.
I want to see if Jenkins can stay healthy this year. If he can, then I pay that guy. He is one of the best IOL in the league in my opinion (LOL, I realize that means nothing). He is our best offensive lineman. Wright has a lot of raw talent, but he is still needing improvement/development... and that is understandable because he is just entering his 2nd season.
LOL, so ask me that question again after this season ends and I'll have a shorter/better answer
