We are going to field 5 centers and the opposing teams will have to figure out which one is actually going to snap the ball. Who said Waldron wasn't innovative
Chris Glaser is an interesting guy, but not in a good way (not for the Bears anyway). He played college ball mostly as a RG and LG (over 3,000 snaps). but did play 8 snaps at center in college. His college PFF grades were pretty decent his final year at Virginia (72.3). I can't find a draft profile anywhere on him.
He was originally signed as an undrafted player by the K.C. Chiefs in 2022 after a walk-on tryout (the same year we drafted Doug Kramer in the 6th round). He was cut on August 2nd that camps so he must have lasted a few days at most before getting cut by KC. And then he bounced around to the Jets and Cowboys and then back to the Jets. He's been mostly a practice squad guy. But he did play 83 snaps last season for the Jets (but only 23 snaps as a center). He mostly played RG. (LINK).
I wish him luck, I really do, but if this guy sees action for the Bears this year we are totally screwed on the OL.

That bio reads like a textbook example of a Poles lost dog. LOL

It really does, doesn't it? I'm usually a Kool Aid guy on these signings and try to find something positive to say. But this guy is about as obscure of a dude as you'd find. I think he was a walk-on at Virginia but eventually became the starter there at RG. I looked at his measurables to see if by chance he had Orangutan length arms. No luck there. And his RAS scores must be about on par with old Virginia McCaskey's (oil up her wheelchair and I'll bet she could take him in the 40).
But then again, he did snap the ball 8 times in college and 23 times last year for the Jets. So there's that I guess...

until Poles spends a high draft pick or some serious FA $$$ on a center, my theory is that his plan is to keep throwing enough shit against the wall and hope to get lucky. This move fits right into that theory. He just doesn’t put much value on the position. But maybe he’ll get around to it next year.
All joking aside, the Bears gotta get a "real" center next year. Right now it's like they are throwing crap at the wall to see what sticks. Patrick, Mustipher, an over-the-hill Whitehair, Bates, Shelton & Kramer - and now the mighty Chris Glaser - don't look that great. And the constant change there can't be good too. It sure would be great to bring in a guy like Kreutz who could be around for a decade or so of good play. It would have to be a big help to Caleb over his career also. But as you point out davidl it will take a legit investment in the position (either a decent draft pick or some real $$$ for a good vet).

The Seahawks picked up Conner Williams at center. He had a bad ACL tear last season, so it’s a risk. But he’s a good player when healthy. I would rather have seen Poles go after him.

I agree. But hopefully they know something we don't

God help us if he does spend a high draft pick on a OL, a center if you will. We won't hear the end of it. "How can Poles draft an OL when a Probowl hall of famer sexah Defensive tackle is right there!" or another favorite " Poles is going to regret this pick! I have watched 1000's of hours of film on this guy?"
It has happened before and I am sure it will happen again.
