He showed a lot of promise last season as a rookie starting games in the NFL. He also seems to have taken a big step up in year-2. It sounds like he believes he will have a solid career as a starter in the NFL at some future point.
Not sure he'll ever get a shot to do it, unless he is a backup and an at risk starter gets hurt and he backs into the starting job. But I could see him at least being that teams bridge ala Orton for a few teams. He'll have a good long career in the NFL no matter what.

I don't think we know. He was 2-2 and despite all of our praise, wasn't that great as a rookie. 65% completions, 3 TDs 6 INTs, 5 sacks, 2 lost fumbles (total of 8 turnovers in 4 games). Thats not great, that solid backup numbers. I know this puts me in the minority, but he played Div2 football and wasn't drafted because his talent/skills weren't where teams needed them to be. He doesn't have elite arm strength (but how many QBs do?) Doesn't have elite running (again....how many QBs do?) Processes the field (apparently like an NFL QB should) well.
Now, they (and I) could be wrong. But we just don't know. We will know after his rookie contract is done (this year and one more) and he's a RFA. Bears will have to pick one of these contracts to offer him: First-round tender: $6.822 million Second-round tender: $4.89 million Original round tender: $3.116 million Right-of-first refusal tender: $2.985 million
and other teams can pay the tender to sign him away.
Going to be interesting.
-------------------- Edit: I'm not trying to bag on Bagent. Its just that as fans we are so used to sub-NFL-par QB play that when we see solid backup quality we tend to (IMO) over-value that player. For awhile, Hanie was the favorite so much so that talk radio was full of trading Cutler and building around Hanie. Let's just pump the brakes on Bagent.
CHGO talked about this a bit, the Bears have Bagent until 2026, and there are only 9 QB's w/a lower contract then him. Unless it all goes tits up and Williams gets hurt, Bagents best chance is in 2027; or the trade deadline of 2026. But they pointed out there are already a lot of teams that could use him; and at least one team has admitted(they didn't say which so don't ask me) they should have given him a stronger UDFA offer.

Watched it. Bears should hang on to him unless they get a ridiculous offer.
But honestly he could backup for most teams and could start for a few right now. Have you guys seen how bad some teams are at QB? Several teams have nothing.

Oddly enough Pitt could use him.JT O on his YouTube channel eviscerated Fields. Said watching that tape from the bills game, if he didn't know who that was, or what he could do with his legs, he wouldn't understand why he was still on the roster. Bills could use him as a backup also, even if Mitch hadn't got hurt. But ya you don't take his actual value bc it can only go up. And the only reason to even consider it is if you think Rypien is close to him.
"Before we even consider if the Bears should be willing to deal Bagent away, we have to ask whether Bagent is being overrated right now. Sure, he looked like a stud against the Bengals, but the annals of failed NFL quarterbacks are littered with guys who looked good in the preseason. Consider his regular-season action last year. He was pretty much just 'OK' in his appearances.
Conversely, Bagent was a rookie getting his first tase of real NFL football. Prior to his start against the Raiders, the last defense he'd faced in a full game was the Colorado School of Mines. That's about as big of a leap in talent imaginable for a quarterback. So, while he didn't look all that good, it'd be a mistake to write him off after four career starts, especially since he seems to have improved already."

And as we have found out here in Chicago, if you don't have the solid QB1 then your team is nothing. There is no hope until you get that guy. I think we (finally) have our guy. After all these many years of watching the Bears miss on their attempts to get the guy, it is now mind-numbing to me - that we may finally have an elite QB1. I do believe we need 2025 to complete this roster though... and I get it, that a roster is never really 100% complete. But 2025 should be the year Poles tops off the talent at a level needed to put the team in a position to be one of the best in the NFL.
