Just read an article that the Bears want to keep Rypien. Not sure what that means for Bagent. He won't last long on the practice squad.
Maybe the Bears carry 3 QBs this season on the 53 roster. The new rule allows 3 to dress with one not counting against the 48 on gamedays. This rule change came after the 49ers, in the 2023 NFC Championship game lost Purdy, and then their QB2 got concussed. Quarterbacks missed a lot of time in recent seasons. Sixteen got sidelined just last season, so half the league. If (when) Caleb goes down it would be nice to have two good QB backups to carry the team until he can return. It could make the difference between making or missing the playoffs.

If Bagent and Rypien are lucky, they will be on the right team at the right time and turn into Chase Daniel, a $40,000,000 QB, setting themselves and their families up for life.
If they get really lucky, they'll have a season like Foles did, taking over for a starter and getting hot in the playoffs and start in a SB.
They'll go on to coach HS or college and maybe get a stint as a QB coach somewhere for a few years, maybe even getting to call plays in a preseason game.
Good for them, they have put in years of hard work.

+1 And I would add that it seems like the QB2 has evolved into being more important than ever. Some old school fans used to say that if your QB1 goes down to serious injury then your season ends right there. That may not have to happen if the backup can win a few games for you until the QB1 returns. I just think it's worth having a decent backup. And I am like you, I figure good for them if they have a decent backup career.
