I think this may be pretty darned close to what we see on the 53-man roster. It's not set in stone yet, but I think this is where it probably stands right now, post Hall of Fame game.
I especially liked his WR unit projection. Pettis is probably a goner. Carter & Swain are goners too. I think these 6 guys stick: Wide Receiver (6): DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Keenan Allen, Tyler Scott, Velus Jones, Collin Johnson

Pettis saw his roster slot go through his fingers (see what I did there? ha ha ha) when he dropped the punt. That was literally the only way he was going to make the roster--as a PR.
Agree on Pettis. Can't see any reason to keep him. He's a former 2nd round pick who was a disappointment and he's bounced around the league for years every since as an ex-bust. Nothing to see here -- move on.
DomRob should be gone too. Guy is invisible.
I do think they will keep DeAndre Carter for returns so Johnson (whom I agree I'd like to see them keep) is gonna have be a WR7/TE4 kinda guy. He's almost big enough to be a move TE and is a decent blocker so I think his best chance to stick is if they see him as a hybrid depth WR/TE who can play some STs. I'm rooting for him to make it.
I disagree with the author a little tho. We don't need to keep a 3rd QB or a 6th ILB. Those are PS spots.

I'll bet they do see him as that kind of guy. There is a lot of camp and 3 ps games left to see if he can continue to look good. He seems like a guy that would be valuable in Waldron's offense.

I have been doing some research on Velus Jones. He seems to be someone who the fans have either a love or hate relationship with.
But I follow a bunch of guys who do a lot of their own stat work, and I am repeating what a few of them have pointed out. If you look at the KO return stats from the entire 2023 season and you filter out those with 10 or fewer returns, guess who lead the NFL in KO returns for last season?

I just watched one of Swifty's latest videos. It looks like they are moving Velus Jones to RB. He actually has decent rushing stats (17 attempts, 154 yds, 1 TD, Avg 9.1 yds per attempts). He had 3 fumbles (all lost) in 2022. But as I recall, 2 of those were on returns.

I like the move. It will be interesting to watch and see if the Bears can get more out of him this season. I think there's a decent chance he will find his niche in this new kickoff return gig and some use as an RB.

It's interesting but I think we have enough good players at that position that it is incremental. My mind is still on the OL and what is going to happen this season to both the Bears W-L record and to Williams health

Mine too. But full disclaimer, I'm probably over-reacting regarding the OL at this point and in meatball fan mode.
My wild guess is that the OL will be: Brax, Jenkins, Shelton, Bates, Wright as starters. We have heard some good things about depth players: Matt Prior (played both interior and tackle decently), and it sounds like Ja'Tyre Carter has improved his game... he's only 25 years old and beginning his 3rd season, so he could be legit better as a depth guard. Jake Curhan (from Seattle) has apparently looked good at tackle (another fairly young guy with 3 seasons experience). And Nate Davis might be a halfway decent depth guy at guard. I'm guessing the Bears will carry 9 OL on their 53 man roster. Maybe the unit will be okay... at least an average unit (I'd gladly take average OL this year. Just don't be a train wreck unit that gets CW killed). Health (or lack of it) is the wild card this season. Jenkins is a stud if he can stay on the field this year and off IR. Hopefully if Shelton is the C then he can play halfway decent there and stay healthy. Both starting tackles will be okay, and maybe even better than just okay. I keep reminding myself it is still way early in training camp, and the Bears have yet to play their first "regular" preseason game.

Personally, I think most fans are in the same mode. Not that I'm not concerned about our interior OL. Just that the staff is cutting a lot of slack when it comes to time off right now, especially for the veterans.
With the extension/restructuring of Moore's contract, we have over $20 million in cap space. So, if Poles has someone he wants to sign to bolster the IOL, he can. And with Amagedjie back of the non-football injury list, we have someone with real skills who may be able to help bolster the interior as well.
Again, I am not saying there is nothing to worry about. Just that it is not necessarily as bleak as it is being made out by all the usual scumbags in the various forms of sports media.
