Sounds like Eberflus is close to being done with the Nate Davis experiment. On top of that the OL was dominated today in the second day of pads. Men against boys stuff. Caleb had to play hero ball due to the fact he didn't have a viable OL. I know it is early. But the OL situation looks less than ideal. Again.
Nate Davis has show nothing so far. That is my own eye test. We signed a dud.

A trashy oline was the concern going into the season. In spite of what Poles has done (yes it’s early) I was hoping we turned the corner.
One move I do like regarding Poles and this OL, is that he did not give Jenkins (Mr. Glass Man) an extension until he proves he can be healthy. He is of little value to us on IR each year. And Nate Davis was a failed experiment... I get it, that the contract money pretty much mandated him staying on the roster this season in hopes that he could help the team (he can't, he is a liability out there... when he actually "is" out there). Our depth at swing tackle, Larry "turnstile" Borom, is not a good backup. He gets beat like a drum by D guys.
Ryan Pace has had 3 seasons to put together a great OL here in Chicago. So far we have what we see now... not good. People at practice are saying Caleb has no time to work and has to run away from pressure and try to bail out plays with hero ball. To his credit, CW can do that stuff to "some" extent. But you don't want this season to be a rerun of Fields' stuff of the last 3 years.
I understand that Poles inherited a mess of a roster. But next year the OL needs to get the attention it deserves... we need 2 guards and better depth players (I have zero faith that Glassman Jenkins will avoid the usual IR vacation this year). It is so sad that we have this fantastic WR unit and Caleb Williams - and yet the same old crap OL woes. It gets old. Real old.

Let’s move Bates to RG. Swifty says Brax is looking really strong after two years in the Bears weight room. I want them to try the rookie at RG.

I just hope Brax's injury is not a nagging issue that he is dealing with this season. Is it a soft tissue thing? Regarding the rest of the offensive line, hopefully they can "set" the 5 guys - like now - and let those guys work as a unit at their respective positions, all summer camp & preseason. This moving guys around is bad even if they DID have a good OL. Offensive lines need to work as a unit to be the best they can be. It is just "that" kind of position group. So I do agree with you, in that "if" Nate Davis is not the guy then kick him to the curb now. Make him the backup. Now. Does that suck because of the fat contract he has? Sure. But cut bait and move on if he's not the guy. This thing smells like Claypool-II to me... more and more as the saga unfolds.

We have this game with Texans. If Davis can’t play or sucks, it’s time to try Bates there. On Brax, I’m just repeating what Swift say’s he’s seen in training camp. Jenkins switched from tackle to guard, so if Brax really does have the LT job nailed down, I’d try the rookie at RG, especially if Davis/Bates isn’t working.

I think we need to chill a bit on any really negative coverage. I am not trying to say that we do not have a potential issue with Davis. We may end up having to replace him. But, then again, he could end up being a solid RG for us.
I have gotten really suspicious of any sort of really negative reports. It is like the entire Bears press corps have channeled their internal Chicken Little and are all waiting, breathlessly, for the next opportunity to report that the sky is indeed falling.
IMO all of this is in reality based on Flus' last press conference where he talks about going through the hard practices, getting callouses and coming back quickly from the initial minor injuries. There was an obvious and largely unspoken reference to Davis in that conference. But (again IMO) it does not sound like Davis is an issue, yet. He may very well become one. But we just need to see how it plays out.

LOL, gotta admit this player hits a nerve on me - and has. I could be wrong (often am) but personally, I base this on what I have seen in his performance so far. Or lack of it. He has not been good. This is from my own eye-test since he became a player for us. In limited play last season he allowed 7 hits on the QB, 29 pressures, 6 penalties and had a pass blocking rating in the 40's (turnstile territory). For me this has nothing to do with Eberflus, but it is simply a guy who is not performing up to what he is being paid. More than any player on this Bears team, this guy ticks me off. He is stealing money from the Bears because there is no way he is playing at a starter's level. Backup? Yeah, maybe. But he is being paid starter money.
