The guy is still solid as a rock as a blocking TE. Amazing to be able to play this well. He's 40 years old and this will be his 19th NFL season. I really like re-signing him... he is still one of the best blocking TE's in the NFL.
I remember back when he was drafted I was hoping the Bears would draft him. That year the Bears traded down (2006) when they dealt the No. 26 selection to the Bills in exchange for choices in the second and third rounds they spent on safety Danieal Manning (No. 42) and defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek (No. 73). On the plus side though the Bears spent their own 2nd round pick on Devin Hester.

"Gather 'round the fire, rookies. Let me tell you what the NFL was like when you were a mere 3 years old.
When I first started out as a rookie, the Houston Texans had only been in the league for a few years, the Redskins were still a team, the Raiders were run by a lunatic, and the Bears had just drafted the legendary kick returner Devin Hester. Yes, the one who is in the Hall of Fame now..."

This all fits nicely into Eberflus’ promise: “We’re going to run the ball.”

What I like is that this team should be very capable running and passing, so as to not be a one-trick pony team. Keep defenses off balance. Kind of like golf. You want to have more than one club in your bag.

That is what I keep telling motm and MP. The measure of an offense is PPG and TOTAL offense, not whether QB throws 4,000 yards.
