In 10 years Romo has started all 16 games only 4 times. Cutler has actually started more games than Romo. Romo has been a pretty good QB but I don't know if I'd say much better. He has been the better QB overall though. I also think he's been on some better teams than the Bears in the last 10 years as well.
It's not even close, Romo is far superior in all ways to Cutler; he's been on some good teams, but I wouldn't say better then anything the Bears had. The OL for Dallas was far worse, up until around 2014, then anything the Bears ever had hobbled together w/Cutler. Hard to believe but it's true, the only thing that made them look decent was his ability to escape and run.
I'm not trying to defend Cutler at all here. I jut don't think Romo is some elite QB. If someone is considered to be far superior to Cutler then I'm assuming he's elite. Cutler is average to below average. Romo is above average. He's better, not far superior. His health is a major concern for me too.
I just don't see any major benefits to getting Romo unless he's a FA pick up for a favorable contract.
I don't think it would be stupid for the Patriots to trade Garropolo, it would be stupid for a team to trade for him. I almost guarantee it's going to cost more than most think to get him and they will not get a good return on investment with him. I see this as the same scenario that happened with Cassel and Flynn. Did well as back ups on good teams then went to another team for a bunch of money only to suck.
The Patriots have the system put in place to win with just about any QB. They would still have Brady and they now have Brissett. If they got rid of Garrapolo they would just draft another QB in a late round and he would probably be just as well suited to play as Garropolo. The Patriots know what they are doing, most other teams do not.
This is what people don't realize. We are not the Patriots. Fox is not Belichick. Garropolo will not be Tom Brady here in Chicago. He probably won't even be Jay Cutler, if he lands in Chicago. But he's the "shiny new thing" that Bears fans will covet.
It makes no sense to bring in Tony Romo to this team, it doesn't help him and it doesn't help the Bears. He needs to go to a team like Den or the Jets or Arizona, a team that is REALLY close to a SB run but needs a legit threat at QB.
Is Romo a far upgrade over anything the Bears have, sure, but he won't be happy on a 8-8 team that isn't going to push for a SB, and all that does is prevent the Bears from getting on w/their future. If they are going to do that, they might as well keep Cutler, he'll be cheaper and the overall record will be worse, lending to another high draft pick.

I don't see the need to get him either, don't get me wrong. But their careers, as they are both winding down, will be viewed very different. Cutler will be seen as average, and Romo as elite, or just on the outside of elite.
Based on the trade price that Clayton proposed for Garropolo I would do that. I still don't understand it though. Time after time when the topic of QB availability pops up in the media, Garroppolo's name is brought up as though it is a forgone conclusion; hell, I don't even think it's a LIKELY conclusion. I've said it before, it would be stupid for NE to get rid of this kid that they have groomed given the age of Tom Brady. However, I've given up on debating sports journalists as they don't read my shit anyway. With that said, and assuming they are right, I would pull the trigger on a 2017 2nd and a conditional 2018 pick as Clayton projects. Not that I want to spend our draft picks like that, but I have always liked Jimmy and was hopeful that the Bears would take him when he came out in the draft. I know someone will bring up past New England back-ups and their lack of success, but I always hate comparisons like that. They are not machines, they are people and each one is just as different as each QB coming out in this draft.
Meh, my thoughts for what its worth, which ain't much.
So 2 years of bad injury now determines the faith of Romo?
Well...for one...it's not just 2 years. He's missed games in multiple seasons for multiple reasons:
- In 08 he missed games with a broken pinkie and broken ribs
- In 2010 he broke his collar bone and missed 10 games
- In 2013 he missed games with a ruptured disk in his back
- In 2014 he had two transverse fractures in his back
- In 2015 he broke his left collar bone TWICE and missed 12 games
- In 2016 he suffered a compression fracture in his back
So please...tell me again how it's just been the last two years...and why a 37 year old, who isn't very mobile, with a history of broken collar bones and even worse back injuries would be a good idea here in Chicago?
- In 2007 he played 16 out of 16 games - In 2008 he played 13 out of 16 games - In 2009 he played 16 out of 16 games - In 2011 he played 16 out of 16 games - In 2012 he played 16 out of 16 games - In 2013 he played 15 out of 16 games - In 2014 he played 15 out of 16 games

Come on Butkus, I saw what you attempted to do. You attempted to make it look like Romo has missed the majority of his career do to injury but that isn't the case.
Besides for a few years in which he got hurt badly. Which this is football after all, he's been as reliable as many in the NFL.
I know many like to call him injury prone but excluding the last 2 seasons the dude has stay consistent and healthy the majority of the time.
I believe Romo could have another good 2 years left in him. We could use that time to develop our new QB while having a Pro Bowl QB playing for us.
We could have Romo, Barkley, and 2nd Round QB as our depth.

One has a 95 QBR while the other has a 85 QBR.
Cutler had argubly one of the best offenses in the league in 2013 and 2014 and couldn't do anything with them. Heck Josh McCown was a much better QB with that offense than Cutler was.

No...I merely refuted your claim that he's only had injuries the last 2 years...which is not true. Further...yes it's football...what do you think happens to 37 year old guys in football? You think they magically get healthier? You think bad backs magically get better? Why should I sign a guy for minimum what I'm paying Cutler to come here and with a minimum 90% probability not stay healthy? Why should I do that? Weren't you on the "don't sign AJ to a long term deal until he PROVES he can stay healthy" train? Yet you want to bring this guy aboard?! LOL

Never said he only had injuries those years.
I said "I know many like to call him injury prone but excluding the last 2 seasons the dude has stay consistent and healthy the majority of the time."
Which is true. Many like to look at his last 2 years and say he's done in the NFL.
Peyton Manning is a great example of someone who many consider done in the NFL and came back to have one of his best years with the Broncos...
I also like to know where you get the 90% can't stay healthy.
Difference is AJ isn't a veteran player who's been in the league for 10 years and stayed healthy the majority of the time.
