Chicago Bears Fans Need to Be Patient With Caleb Williams.

Here's the thing - ultimately, there were a lot of people emotionally attached to Justin Fields. And for good reason. Caleb might be the better prospect, and yes, there will be a learning curve, absolutely.

But in trying to sway the fans to ditch Justin and embrace Caleb, the media in this town are the ones who really put Caleb into this position in the first place, and now watch them try to blame the fans for it.

When people were still fighting to keep Justin, all the media could do was gas up Williams and talk about how much better he would be than Justin, and THEY, THEY THEMSELVES set those lofty expectations - only once Justin was gone act like "Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Tap the breaks there! Why do you fans have such high expectations for Williams, he's only still a rookie!"

It's so disingenuous its disgusting, frankly.


So I guess what I am saying is it is reasonable to temper expectations in season 1 - but don't let the media for a MINUTE tell you if there is any blowback that it wasn't a function of THEIR own creation, instead of letting them blame the fans...

I'll be honest - I don't think Fields was EVER properly developed.

There's a reason why they fired Luke Getsy - if Fields was the entire issue, he'd still be there.  But Getsy tried to take a QB whom he should have modeled after Lamar Jackson, and instead tried to turn him into Aaron Rodgers, when the QB didn't have Rodgers' toolbox of skills - he had Jackson's.

And Nagy missed the boat on that as well, and basically now its known him and his team had a fit because they didn't want Fields either (they also didn't want Mitch, which I get, but it seems like Nagy's staff likes to throw fits about what they didn't get as excuses for their own incompetence while they were with the Bears).

I think Justin is in the right place now for him to do something.  And I think he'll be starting for Pittsburgh by season's end because he will finally have a staff that knows just what to do with him.

That said, I do think Caleb is the more talented prospect.  I just also know Fields got a raw deal here in Chicago.

I think that is true.  Most of us fans are overly-emotional about the Bears (and I include myself in this category).  And that's perfectly okay because we ARE fans.  And I've noticed (what you point out) that a lot of the media is actually trying to reign in expectations now.  At least the media people I follow are.  LOL, I think we all (fans and also Bears beat reporters) were genuinely euphoric over drafting C.Williams and Rome Odunze.  But now I think we all are coming back down to earth a bit... still happy but we realize the team is a work in progress with a rookie QB1 - and a new offense with new schemes and a new coaching staff there.  This won't be perfect right away by any means.
