What's been posted is pretty much what's been reported and Fox confirmed the coverage only commenting that it had worked for them earlier in the game. They were in "quarters" coverage and by design a shorter crossing route took the FS (Bush) out of the play. Rodger had to be licking his chops when he saw that.
But in the end it all comes to down this and the decision on whose ever part it was the leave LeBlanc in single coverage in that situations against one of the most potent passing combos in the NFL. IMHO that was foolish coaching.
"The biggest problem is that LeBlanc didn't stay on top of Nelson, he let Nelson get even with him and when Nelson cut his route into the middle, he had gained a step on LeBlanc who was now trailing Nelson deep across the middle with no safety help."
Plain and simple LeBlanc got beat by a vet WR whose far better than he is. So I tend to agree with your father-in-law BB. A raw rookie UDFA allowed himself to get beat and trail the play when even if he had to give up a 15 yard cushion his only job was to take any deep route away and force Rodgers to check down to another receiver and he didn't do it.
But all of this was preceded by a decision Fox made which left enough time on the clock for it to happen. If there was never a plan to go for the win on 4th and goal prior to the tying FG than that 3rd down play should have been a run which would have taken another 30 seconds or more off the clock. Personally when you're 3-10 with nothing to lose I'm not sure why they did try to pound it in with two runs by Howard but there's John Fox and his "old school" crap again.
The other issue to me is that he compounds that by not accepting the ten second run off because "he thought they might get the ball back". LOL Yeah, now he wants to win it with 60 yards or more of field to cover and little time to do it. So why be so conservative on one hand and then take a more aggressive approach leaving Aaron Rodgers even more time to make a play? That's just one more example of his poor game time decisions. The guy is just not a good football coach period.
