But you said the record speaks for itself, right? He is the reason Eberflus is still here. These two are joined at the hip. They sink or swim - together - for better or for worse.
No, his record does not speak for him. Not yet. He was given a stripped down tank team with no talent. You yourself have ragged on and on about how little talent we had. What's a HC supposed to do with no talent and according to your own dead horse beating - with a bum, horrible no-good backup QB as a starter?
His 2022 record sure. That was a tank year. 2023 should be held against him. He choked multiple games away. His 4th Quarter is one of the worst. We can only scape goat Fields so much. If Williams struggles in a similar way then its on Flus. He had one of the worst offenses.
He only started looking decent when we were playing bottom tier teams.
No, not 2023 either. You can't tear down like we did and expect any turn around the next year. It takes time to get sufficient talent (we're still not there yet) and it takes time for the new guys (we had lots of them) to learn the system and get to know each other and work together. It doesn't happen all in one year.
game time decisions? yes, he made several mistakes, but I think he's learned from them. This year, and more so next year is when his record will start to reflect his tenure.

+1 From the very beginning, we talked about how the hiring of a first time GM and a first time HC has a cost. There is a learning curve to climb for these two men, Poles and Eberflus. Poles seems to have done well with his 3rd off-season. Let's see how Eberflus does in his 3rd coaching season here.
I'm undecided about Flus until I see if he can close out wins as a coach. Yes the players play, but you can directly pin the "snatching defeat from the jaws of victory" games on playcalling--which goes back to Flus.

I think that when we discuss Eberflus' career with the Bears, we need to think about exactly what has been Eberflus' involvement with the rebuilding effort. Has he been actively involved with Poles and Cunningham on the details of the personnel decisions? Were there decisions made to purposely tank the rest of the 2022 season? All of this plays in when Poles & Warren evaluate Eberflus' performance.
If he blows a couple of games this year with play calling, I'm sure he will be on thin ice. But if the team wins 10+ games this season, he probably will be in a strong position for a contract extension.

I agree with you. This is the season where we will see what we have or don't have in him. He seems to have a strong leadership ability. This year we will get to see what he can do with a solid roster of talent - game prep, making in-game adjustments, and if he can win. That's what we will be watching for.

I don't believe Poles is the reason Eberflus is still here. I believe its our cheap owners not wanting to pay two HCs at the same time.

When I see teams do a one year turnaround yes I will hold them accountable. Its like saying Texans 2023 season didn't matter when they became a playoff team overnight. Yes one year turnarounds have happen multiple times. Colts with Luck is another example.
He's not a rookie HC. He's been in this position before. There is a reason the Colts let him go.

It's on the record that Poles and Eberflus are close friends. We have that from Ryan Poles himself, who hired 'Flus. Poles has repeatedly (almost to the extent of being tiresome) confirmed that he believes 100% in Matt Eberflus' coaching ability.

yup. But it gets washed over because he is good in the locker room. Um.... that didn't sound right....
