Eberflus seems to be able to connect with these players. They want to play for him. According to the article there was a genuine fear at one point that Caleb Williams would pull and Eli and not play for the Bears. 'Flus met one-on-one with CW and was the one to convince Caleb Williams to come to Chicago - and to realize what a great opportunity this was for CW. He believed Coach and embraced coming here to Chicato to be our quarterback. He is 100% all-in on being a Chicago Bear.

I am currently shameful in wanting to have Flus fired a while back. He does seem like he is developing into a good HC.

I'm not, the man's record speaks for himself. He's not a really good HC. His offense was horrible, he lost staff because of HR problems. So I question his judgement.

I think most of us, including me, were really angry going through the tank season and the first half of last season - and wanting Poles and Eberflus fired. I was sick over the losing. We were watching a new head coach making some mistakes learning how to BE a head coach. Then after the season ended I had an opportunity to see some positives with Poles and Eberflus (I had definitely begun to like Poles at that point, a lot). Eberflus still has to prove he is a good head coach for us. But I am thinking that we may find that he is a good coach for us - just like we found out that Ryan Poles is a good GM here.

I was upset with Ryan Poles and Eberflus too. And you are right their record speaks for itself. Many of the fans wanted them both fired before the end of last season. But I do believe it is reasonable to keep an open mind on these two. For that matter I feel the same way with CEO/President Kevin Warren (he's made mistakes too already). I do agree with you that Eberflus needs to prove himself this season. The tank year I look back on and understand the situation for what it was - a losing season to get the draft picks (ultimately getting D.J. Moore, Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze and some of the other young ascending players. Last season sucked the first half of the year. But then we began to see some better stuff.
He may not have proven to be a really good HC yet. But he could prove it this season. LOL, that's my view on it. I'm in a "wait and see mode" now. But I do like a lot of what I see in him as a leader of men. That is one critically important attribute... not the only one, but an important one that we have not had in some of our head coaches in the past.

This is a prove it year for him imo.
No, his record does not speak for him. Not yet. He was given a stripped down tank team with no talent. You yourself have ragged on and on about how little talent we had. What's a HC supposed to do with no talent and according to your own dead horse beating - with a bum, horrible no-good backup QB as a starter?

I don't want to get into the discussion on Eberflus. Not that I don't have an opinion on it, just that we need to see how the 2024 season plays out.
But what I always do with an Erik Lambert article is to go to the original source for the story and see what the folks who did the real heavy lifting on the story actually said. Too many times, I have seen Lambert grab another author's work and actually twist it to support his personal opinion (and where the original story never said anything like what Lambert was trying to say).
The source story was from SI's MMQB stuff. It is very long and really covers how the Bears went through the evaluation process on deciding to trade Fields and all the effort that went into the recruiting of Williams. I haven't been a fan of Eberflus but if this is all true, he deserves some respect for how he handled this.

+1 I am wanting to see more of what 'Flus can or can't do as HC here as we move forward. This roster is mostly rebuilt now (with some notable exceptions that need to be addressed in 2025 draft/FA). He has had 2 seasons to get his sea legs too. He still needs to prove he's the guy. But I think he could do that. D.J. Moore has come out with his own benchmark he wants to see the team achieve this season (10 wins and a playoff appearance), and if 'Flus achieves that (it won't be easy in this NFCN division) then I think that is pretty darned good. We would then have gone from a 3-season tank year, to last year's 7-wins, to a 10-win/playoff season. That would reflect well on Poles and Eberflus both.

His 2022 record sure. That was a tank year. 2023 should be held against him. He choked multiple games away. His 4th Quarter is one of the worst. We can only scape goat Fields so much. If Williams struggles in a similar way then its on Flus. He had one of the worst offenses.
He only started looking decent when we were playing bottom tier teams.

Poles turn it around. Granted luck played a HUGE factor in it. But I'm willing to give him a chance long term. There is zero reason why this offense shouldn't be a top 10 passing unit instead of 25th overall. I understand they want a "balance" offense but you don't have these type of weapons for a 50-50 split. Flus is supposedly this great defensive minded guy. He should be able to coach them up to a top 10 defense.
I could careless how he is as a leader. I just want results. He is a failing Bears record HC. This is his year to fix it. Williams should have a min of 3000-3500 passing yards with the weapons we have on offense. 3 #1 WRs, a top 10 TE, and a good RB.
