I'm just glad a ton of Fields supporters finally realize how much better Williams is. Since before the draft we kept hearing how Fields needs a Super Team to make it to the Super Bowl to then disappoint all their fans by making him a backup QB at another team.
Caleb Williams has not proven anything at the NFL level yet.
We don't know (for certain) yet if Caleb Williams will be a star, or a bust, or something between those two extremes. I will always wonder what the Justin Fields outcome would have been with these players and O coaches Caleb is about to have Day-1 here. On paper it looks like both of these QBs had great college careers (obviously Fields had more success in the college playoffs). And Fields completion percentage in college was better. But CW had great stats too. I "get it" that people want to crown Williams before he's even played his first NFL game... and I hope he deserves that crown someday soon. I hope he doesn't bust, and I don't think he will. Fields will be fine and eventually will be a QB1 somewhere by 2025. It's a restart to his career. I wish him luck.
Didn't we say the samething about Trubisky or Cutler? Us fans overvalue below average QB play. Its no wonder some are ok with us never having a 4k passing QB.

Yeah, me too JABF. Of course, our focus has to be on Williams now, but I do wonder the same thing. If Williams is head and shoulders above Fields by the end of this year or even next year, it will just be a passing thought but if not, yeah... I will always wonder
Indications are that he has better anticipation than Fields (from Moore who should know). That was my biggest issue with Fields. I thought he had an accurate deep ball but never really threw with the anticipation needed in the NFL. That and his filed processing was not where it needed to be. It had gotten much better but still not there.
The thing that has not been mentioned is that it will be an adjustment for Moore also. You have to remember that for two years he has been running routes where he has needed to be open to get the ball. Now, he has to get back to running the route where the QB depends on him to be open at a certain place and time. You have to retrain yourself. Won't be an issue for Allen, and hopefully from day one Odunze will train that way. It's not like Moore can't do it. We know he can, but it is a little bit different.

I agree with all of that. We will never know how it would have played out differently with Fields. My gut feeling (which is worthless) is that Caleb Williams does possess better skills than Fields. But that doesn't mean Fields is a bum... just that he's at a talent level somewhere below CW. I'm ready to move on now. I'm looking forward to the present team and season, and beyond.
On that note, I'm with you that there will be a transition period and a learning curve now. New coaching staff and new players and QB1. New schemes and playbook too. Keep in mind that the CBA limits practices now - and even if we did have more practice time before the regular season, there's stuff that has to be learned in real games - games that matter to both teams, not the preseason stuff. That learning curve only begins in September, 2024. And it's going to be this young/inexperienced team running the gauntlet of the NFCN teams that are ahead of us... even the Vikings should be a tough out this year, whether folks want to believe that or not, they won't be an easy win. There is a reason why the betting over/under is 8.5 games and not the 10 and 11 wins us fans are dreaming about. But we are on a high right now after the draft and the sky is the limit and the Kool Aid is flowing. And nothing wrong with that. I'm in that 10 win mode myself. Probably delusional thinking but fans are allowed to be delusional. Part of being fans.
"Anticipation is there," Moore said. "You can tell that he's expecting us to be open at a certain time. That's gonna be one of the things that's better.
If he is seeing a difference in anticipation so soon, that is very telling and it is great to hear.

It was a telling comment, wasn't it? And Moore was one of those guys being very outspoken about keeping Fields.
Turns out, that evaporated quickly.
I would not say it evaporated quickly, but it struck me that as much as he liked Fields, in a very short session (and not in a game situation where you could really practice anticipation - remember, this was catch and throw) he could tell that there was more anticipation. It says he saw it as a deficit in Field and that he saw that Williams had it. It was a major comment that held a lot of weight. At least for me.
It's kind of like my own response to Fields/Williams as a fan. When Fields was here I backed the guy. When Fields was no longer a Bear, I wished him the best (and meant it), but "next guy up" is Caleb Williams and I'll back him. He's our guy now.
I don't hate on ex-Bears (seems kind of weird to do that). Just because a person is no longer on our team, why trash the guy? It's not like these players want to fail. I don't wish bad on anyone. Wish them luck and move on.

Don't turn your back on Fields just yet. It's been mentioned that the Steelers want to use him as a returner!
