Bears Might Be Getting the Draft Process Right for Once

Right now we are in a good place.  I can't remember many times over the past 60 or so years that the Bears have been in a position this good, as far as the overall team.  Ted Philips has been replaced with the "football guy" we all have wanted for many years now.  Our GM is viewed as a rising young star GM in the NFL who has shown brilliance positioning the team in this year's draft to take the #1 QB in a draft rich in QB talent... and he has an additional top-10 pick in this draft.

Being able to add proven veteran OC Shane Waldron was a great move for the franchise too.

Adding D.J. Moore in the same trade-down move that is giving us Caleb Williams may go down as one of the best GM moves in franchise history.  

Adding future Hall of Fame WR, Keenan Allen to support our new franchise QB1 was a bold move too.  Keenan Allen is our 4th round draft pick this year.  Mind blowing to think about that one.  Now I hope Poles can extend him a couple more seasons.

Adding Montez Sweat with our 2nd round draft pick this year was brilliant too.  Think about the impact of that one... for our 2nd round pick this year.  Pretty cool.

Our defense finished last season as a Top-5 defense in the entire NFL the last half of the season.  So our franchise QB is coming to a team with a solid defense.  Will it be Top-5?  Who knows.  But it sure should be one of the better ones this year.

It is a good time to be a Bears fan, right?  Arrow is pointing up.  Bigtime up.

I agree with both of those.  So far the 2024 draft has brought in an edge (Montez Sweat for the 2nd round pick), Keenan Allen (for the 4th round pick) and Center Ryan Bates (for the 5th round pick).  The 1st round pick is going for QB1 Caleb Williams.  So we already know that for 2024 draft picks he has addressed QB1, Edge, WR & C.  That's an incredibly good draft right there in itself.  And we still have another 1st round pick in the top-10 of the draft and a 3rd and 4th round pick to go.  I'd personally have to go back to 1965 (just from my memory) to the last time we've had a draft this good - that was the year we drafted Gale Sayers and Dick Butkus.  I don't know if this draft (including the veterans he got for his draft picks in this draft) will equal that 1965 draft... but it surely could be that good.  It could even exceed that draft, but only time will tell.

I hope he is (assuming we draft him).  I'm beginning to think that Poles had his eyes on Williams for a while.  And I mean long before the Caleb WIlliams story became the big deal of this draft cycle.

I’m in the “we’ll see” group. It is impressive what’s been done so far, but it hasn’t translated on the field yet. Getting better, but still not a relevant team. Let’s make sure we draft Williams before we get overly excited.
