Regarding that point, I remind myself that the rebuild was never intended to be finished in 2024.  The Bears, will have completed the majority of the rebuild this year, but the team does need to add some key players in 2025.  And when I personally look at the team through this lens, of not getting everything this year, then I figure there ARE multiple ways the team can use that #9 pick and still be "right" as far as setting the table for a 2025 roster-build completion.

And I realize the roster building never completely ends.  But the rebuild should be finished when the draft ends in 2025.  That should be our team for competing with the big boys of the NFL.  Take a big step forward this year, but realize the job is not finished yet.  We need 2025.

IMO Poles is really playing the long game in his rebuild plans.  As we entered this offseason, I was really PO'd at the coaching staff in general.  Obviously, Getsy was the most egregious case of them all, but I felt that Flus should have gone as well.  I agree with your assessment as to why Fus was retained at HC.

But I had a nagging thought about Waldron's hiring.  Ad it still nags me.  I had heard some speculation that, if he is successful, he will be at hot commodity in the HC market in 2025, 2026, etc.  Flus's contract ends in January 2026.  I am wondering if we could see a situation where Flus is not renewed, and Waldron is promoted to HC.

I keep thinking about this because I am seeing where we finish the next few seasons with a top 5 offense and a top 10 defense.  Maybe not in 2024 (but I'm thinking we will be very close) but probably (??) in 2025 and beyond.  This is what championship teams are built of. And in an offense-dominated NFL, the real rain maker on the coaching staff is the guy who runs the offense.

But then again, this could all be a Kool-Aid fueled pipe dream.

I'm just hoping we win games and win our division - and ultimately a championship or more with Matt Eberflus as our head coach.

I am just going to take it one season at a time.  As long as the team is winning, then no worries about the GM and HC.  If the team is winning then often the coordinators do get hired as head coaches - and that's a good thing.  I think us fans get too wrapped around the axle about the head coaches background and forget that he is the CEO of the coaching staff and no longer a subordinate supervisor of one part of the team.  Hopefully an executive-level CEO can hire or promote good supervisory talent.  It all depends upon the skill of the HC... we will wait and see what happens with Matt Eberflus.  And I don't mean this of you and your post BIH, but this whole worry about winning.  If "winning" is our big worry, then I think we've lost our minds here.  Winning is a good thing.  And if we do win then expect other teams to hire our supervisors away as head coaches.  That's how it works in the NFL.  Always has.  Nothing new here.  

It will hopefully be the Chicago Bears offense and not the Shane Waldron offense - even though he will be the architect setting it up.  The Bears have the flexibility to promote or hire the next OC who can build onto success rather than (as the Bears have in the past) burn it all down and start over.  Continuity of success is different than fixing a dumpster fire.  And when you think about it, that makes perfect sense to keep your schemes that are tailored to your existing talent - you don't have a guy burning it all down and then wanting the GM to bring in different types of players (the square peg Nagy thing of forcing players into YOUR scheme when they don't fit your scheme).  

I don't worry about success.  I hate failure - especially decades of mediocrity.  Success is a good thing that can be sustained beyond a coordinator.  It will (hopefully) be the Bears offense not the Waldron offense.  In fact, I would hope the Bears groom an existing guy for stepping into the OC role... if they've hired the quality coaching staff on offense then that is a distinct possibility.  Success can breed success.  Promote a rising young talent on your staff that has worked with the schemes and also the players who perform in those schemes.
