I really think he is happy with his C acquisition. Not sure he goes for another pick at C (not a high one).
I think you could be right. We will just have to wait to see the entire off season plan executed before we have the big picture for this year's roster build. Resources (draft and FA $$$) seemed vast to be a few weeks ago, but now seem more limited. I'm not criticizing. Just accepting the fact that we won't see everything fixed perfectly. Having said that, I do believe the roster will be a HUGE upgrade over last year's roster. But us fans may not "get it all" like Marvin Harrison Jr, JPJ, and all of the dream-team guys in this draft. LOL, some hard choices have to be made by the Bears. I'm fine with that.
Interesting isn’t it how our perspective changes. We resign JJ, trade a fifth rounder for oline, resign a few scrubs and we’re limited on resources. I don’t disagree with you, it’s just weird how we change. The moves made were pretty much expected, or hoped, to occur.

we are absolutely NOT limited on resources. So much cap and room left.
David, this is just me but I do not think Poles thinks he is shorting the C position after acquiring Bates
I know that’s exactly the problem. Over the last two years, he’s gone from starting guard to backup center. 19 starts in 5 years. Then traded for a 5th round pick. Something tells me the Bills have a lower opinion of him than does Poles.
I do believe the Bills are bailing Cap water out of a sinking ship. They couldn't afford to keep some good players.

Personally, I am just trying to understand the plan Poles/Eberflus have. Us fans (and I am including myself here) obviously want all of the shiny new toys. We are like kids before Christmas. But there are limits to these team resources. The Bears have an incredible year resource-wise with two 1st round picks and (originally) over $80-million dollars in cap money to spend. It seemed so huge to me a month ago... just a gold mine of resources. But then "reality" hits and I realize I'm not going to get all the Christmas gifts I dreamed of getting.

Yes, it's all fluid. He could make a huge FA signing (not his style though) and we could reach a small cap situation in just a few days. It's all an unknown and we only know once they announce it. We really only know how things sit for the season a short while before the season starts since things can happen at almost any time.

That is a factor, but the larger consideration is his record. If he were very good, they’d be keeping him and getting rid of other more expensive contracts.
You were pushing for Cushenberry just a couple weeks ago. What happened? Are you happy with no center in FA or the draft? I don’t trust Poles to take one even at #75.
Some good players. But they are all expensive players. Not sure Poles will go after any of them.
+1 We just got OUT of cap hell. These teams are jettisoning good players because they are now IN cap hell and can't afford their players. I do like the fact that Poles is being careful to get value in FA. It's not a perfect science and mistakes will be made. But I do trust Poles to be prudent with the limited cap resources. It's no different than the household budgets we all have to live within. If you spend your money poorly then bad things happen as a direct consequence.
Us fans (me included) want all the shiny toys no matter what they cost. Poles can't spend like that though. I think that for me, personally, I'm finally getting it, that 2024 isn't going to solve all of our needs on this roster. I believe the team will take a huge step forward this 2nd year of the rebuild. But a finished rebuild really isn't going to be completed in 2 drafts and FA cycles. I need to chill and just watch how far the team DOES get this off-season and not jump off the ledge if we don't get the best ____________ (fill in the blank) in this free agency cycle or in the draft. Although we could very well end up with the best franchise quarterback in this draft. We have a legit shot at that I think.
