LINK Saquon Barkley’s 2024 Free Agency Could End with The Chicago Bears
Saquon Barkley’s fit in Chicago.
The Chicago Bears have the Number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. With this pick, the most probable outcome is drafting star quarterback Caleb Williams. Following this pick, the Chicago Bears will have a lot of cap space to build their roster around Caleb Williams. Although some may be opposed to paying a running back, this move could really benefit The Chicago Bears. Barkley still has plenty of gas in his tank, and his presence in the backfield as both a ball carrier and a receiver would go a long way in helping Caleb Williams develop as a star quarterback in the NFL.

It reminded me that supporting a rookie QB1 goes beyond just a WR, OL and TE. A strong defense and a running game threat that scares opposing defenses - would ALSO help the rookie succeed. It is the whole package of support.

Of course, but how high would you bid? He’s not going to be cheap.
Incidentally, the Giants look like they are tanking.

The Giants look like a total train wreck to me as a franchise. Barkley is young. He just turned 27 last month. Yes, he is high-mileage. But as the article pointed out, he still has talent to offer a team. He'd be a very nice fit in a Shane Waldron offense. How high would I bid for him? Well, he made $10m last season. I'll bet it would be mighty attractive to come to the Caleb Williams' Bears on a multi-year contract. Not a 1 year deal. Maybe I'd go with a three-year contract worth $33 million. I'm considering he is high-mileage for his age and has some injury history. Anyway, that contract would take him to age 30. The Bears are talking Super Bowl now (crazy but true) and that would take them to (and even beyond) that SB ready milestone we've talked about here.

Barring another knee injury, he should be fine for Super Bowl ready 2025 (me) or 2026 (you). If we’re not there, then Caleb & Co. is going sideways. If we’re not winning the North by then and sniffing close to SB ready, Warren should be making some moves. So Barkley works well with our timeline. Beyond 2026, all bets are off, and Poles will have had 5 full seasons and Williams 3.

Rather than Barkely, I'd rather they sign Josh Jacobs from the Raiders. I've seen several stories that all roll back up to one source, a recent ESPN1000 show where former Bear Jason McKie said that his agent (who is Jacob's agent) that there is "mutual interest" between the Bears and Jacobs (link).
Jacob has better numbers/performance over the last couple of seasons and has a lot less miles on his body. I don't know what Jacob would be looking for financially, but the more recent devaluation of the RB position might work in our favor.
