It sounds encouraging that Poles is saying they will get a long term deal done. They just need more time. Maybe they are negotiating the final incentives/guaranteed points. But it does sound like they are close.

Poles just wants the two to sit down in a room by themselves. He was seen carrying a rubber hose and thick phone book into the "negotiations"

I guess that means it's a done deal. He's making an offer that can't be refused.

Still keep coming back to the numbers, you just give him his league high AAV with 60% guaranteed and it should be good. 5/110M with 60M guaranteed and a 30M signinging bonus. 2024 - 6M salary + 6M SB prorated = 12M CAP hit 2025 - 9M salary + 6M SB prorated = 15M CAP hit 2026 - 12M salary + 6M SB prorated = 18M CAP hit
Just an example of clean CAP management w/o kicking the can down the road.
With a little more MSU training I'll be the board CAP expert. 😉😉

IIRC, the top-of-market in terms of guarantees (which is what players care about most) is Denzel Ward with $70M. I don't think JJ is signing for less than that since he's repeatedly said he wants to reset the market.
And I gotta believe Poles is balking at a 5 yr deal since JJ has a balky shoulder and has never played a full season.

If that's the case then we'll just have to eat the FT this year and try it again next year if he doesn't settle. Forgot Ward had 70M in guarantees. And yup not sure Poles will go that high.

Plus Poles at the Combine talked about a term that gave JJ "another shot at the market" which sounds like he's thinking 3 years. Maybe 4 max.
