Nothing wrong with drafting a Drew Brees. Brees will probably be a first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback too. Gotta admit that when I read this, it did seem to be a better comparison. All I care about is that the guy (if we draft him) is a great QB for us. Brees, Mahomes or any other great QB type would be fantastic. And really, looking at Caleb he looks more like a Drew Brees size than Mahomes... not that Mahomes is a big guy, but he looks a bit bigger to me than Williams.

Don't get me wrong.... Getting a Drew Brees would be great, but I have to be honest. Out of all of the QBs named as great QBs, Brees probably excites me the least. Can't put my finger on it. Maybe not enough magical escapes behind the line.... not electric enough. Can't explain it, but I've never lusted after him (let the jibes begin on that one)

LOL. As long as he's a Drew Brees or Mahomes - and not a Rex Grossman or Trubs - I'll be a happy camper for sure.

The difference is that Brees was more committed to playing within the pocket. That’s the question about Williams. As they say, “play within the structure of the offense”. We don’t need a QB who can scramble around all over the field. We already have one who’s bigger and faster than Williams.

In fairness, I believe Caleb Williams didn't have a pocket to work with this past year. It was nonexistent (very Bears like situation). He was running for his life doing a good Fields imitation. Seriously, and not joking here, I went back this past week and watched a lot of his play, on top of having watched him playing live this season (on TV) - and he looked SO much like Justin Fields making some great plays on the run, but often holding onto the ball too long as he was running around trying not to get sacked.
If the Bears want a guy to work out of the pocket more, then there has to be a pocket to begin with. Fix the interior OL and that can be there. I got so sick of watching the pitiful center giving up the pocket in a heartbeat all season long. Pitiful. Just pitiful to watch. Jenkins was good until he did the usual IR thing and couldn't play. And Nate Davis was a huge disappointment.

Yeah, I agree. I feel like given a pocket, JF would work out fine. No pocket and neither are going to play their best

I think size-wise, that is the apt comparison. Mahomes is 6'2''...not huge by any measure, but not short either. Caleb is listed at 6'1'', but he probably isn't. I also think Caleb will probably time faster in the 40 than Mahomes and Brees did. They both ran 4.8's...I think Caleb will be around 4.7ish, maybe 4.6.

HAHAH!
It doesn't do anything for me but at least he had a long career.

Brees was kind of a pint sized Marino. His quick release made him tough to sack along with his great pocket presence/awareness. He could make all the throws. He wasnt someone you cared to ever see scramble.
