Bears: "historic compensation" for 1st pick of draft.

Thats why teams will aim for Stroud and not Young.

I've wondered about the possibility of the Bears seeing a QB in this draft that they like, who isn't going to be drafted near the top of the draft.  If they really like maybe a J.J. McCarthy or Bo Nix or Penix - they could deal that top pick, and maybe even do a 2nd trade down.  With that scenario they could have two options.  One option would be to keep Fields for this year and let the kid do the Aaron Rodgers-Mahomes-J.Love thing and carry a clipboard for a season.  

Or you draft the kid and start him, and trade Fields.  That brings "The Haul" and the Bears could end up with the QB they truly want, also.  We assume the Bears automatically want Williams but that may not be true.  

And before folks start jumping on me here, I am not advocating this but just pointing it out as one possible outcome.  Remote, I admit, but you never know how the draft will unfold.  I'm usually surprised more than not surprised in drafts.  Crazy things happen.

Yeah, I think you're right.  We have entirely too much time here for my mind to go racing off in new directions :-)
