No excuses was the mantra and Fields had his prove it season and he failed. Move on.
In fairness, many obviously feel like the Bears failed Fields. YMMV.
No doubt and I can agree with that. But going into this season, we said Fields was to be evaluated without excuses as to whether or not he’s a qb1 for us. He didn’t show he’s the guy. He has great character, is well grounded and appears to have the support of his teammates. All characteristics you’d want in your qb. He simply doesn’t have the skill set to get us to the promised land. Could he? So far that hasn’t been the case. If the Bears decide to keep him, so be it and I’ll continue to support them. If they move on, that works too. To me, this is the time to move on.

At the end of the day, we have no idea as to what is going on behind the scenes. Poles could have decided early in the 2023 season that he was going to milk Fields for all the production he could and then discard him at the end of the season. There are several other scenarios that have equal possibility of happening as well.
This is why I have tried to maintain my criticism this year on ownership, the CEO/president/whatever of football operations, GM/scouting and finally the coaching staff. These are the people who define the schemes, game plans (or lack thereof), hire the staff, hire the players, etc. IMO, regardless of what Poles and the boys at 1920 Football Drive do with the top pick this year, the 2024 season is a very pivotal year for the franchise and the futures of a lot of people hang in the balance. If you draft a player who shouldn't have been drafted as high as you drafted them or didn't have the skillset required for the role you put them in, it is not the player's fault. Finding and selecting players and working them into a functional (and hopefully successful) system is the job of the back office and the coaches.

+1 Great post. That is also a great attitude to have with this quarterback thing, and I feel the same way - if we move on to a new QB I'm going to 100% support the new guy. If we keep Fields I am going to 100% support him and truly not close my mind regarding what he can do here with a better coach and weapons around him. Actually, the better weapons will give the new kid a fighting chance to be a success here too. I do see that as a win-win thing with the draft and FA resources the Bears have this year - and I really really like the new coaching staff on offense.

+1 I totally agree that we (fans) - don't have all of the information that is behind the scenes. As butkus3595 often reminds us here, "we don't know what we don't know" and consequently we can just sit back and enjoy watching the chess moves this pivotal off-season. I'm not sure "why" but I do have a lot of confidence that the Bears will make the best moves possible. We undoubtedly will not agree with all of them. But that doesn't mean they are not the best moves possible, considering the big picture. That's one reason why I didn't want us to get "lost in the weeds" picking "our guy" and turning the entire off-season into trashing anyone else's views regarding "their guy" - let's not go there. It just leads to a poison here on the messageboard because no amount of poison posts will change people's minds about "their guy" - so why go there, right? Just watch what actually unfolds here. I think it is going to be really good. I also think this will be a GREAT years to be a Bears fan. Go Bears!

To go off on a bit of a tangent, recognizing the limits of your knowledge, skills, etc is the first step down the path to wisdom. As is recognizing what you cannot control and not letting it bug you.

This off season will be a fun one to sit back and watch for it to all unfold. I am hoping that nothing happens until I get back to Toronto. I am leaving for Ireland tomorrow and will be there for 10 days. I am sorry but I hope for NOTHING to happen until I return lol.

I promise not to do a damned thing until you get back. And I may not do a damned thing then either.

Thanks Brother!
My first time seeing an Ocean. I have only flown to Calgary and Montreal so this will be quite the event for me.
My Wife and I are going with a friend of ours whom we kind of taken under our wing. He is from Ireland and we plan to stay at his and couple of his Families places so it will be cheaper for us. We land in Dublin then drive to Belfast for two days. Head to a place far north central, a Village of only 400 for a night. Then off to Sligo for two days. Galway for one then I think we return to Dublin until our flight.
