I have not seen more absolute BS as what I'm currently seeing all over social media on what we are doing with the #1 pick (and linked with our plans for Fields) this offseason cycle. I think a lot of it is just people who think of themselves as creative content folks on social media or "influencers" (whatever the hell that really means) showing off how much (or how little?) they know.
But I also think that there is a lot of misinformation being produced by teams to cover their tracks in planning their draft planning and other talent acquisition efforts.
Then there are some media types who have nothing to really talk about and they are doing their best to make some sort of story out of very little. I don't really blame them; they are just trying to pay the bills like a lot of people.
But there isn't much really happening with the draft until the Combine at the end of the month.

I mean this will be the biggest news for the whole offseason.
What do the Bears do with Fields/1st overall pick. A team that isn't bad like the Patriots or Commanders.
I look forward to when a trade is set in place rather its Fields or #1 overall pick so we can truly start seeing real news about the team.

I totally agree. Obviously this is the biggest off-season cycle that we've had in Chicago for a long time. There is more at stake in this draft than any I can remember since Jim Finks ran the club. And my money would be on Poles is cooking up a doozie of a deal. Don't ask me why, just my guts talking (or spidey-sense or whatever).
But we are seeing the downside of the whole digital internet-based media system. Revenue is built on clicks and page views. So even once reputable legacy journalists (and I mean that term in a truly positive way) get caught up is posting salacious, red-meat crap. And not because its true or relevant, just to pay the bills.

This is a career defining moment for Poles. This will shape the Bears legacy going forward.
One of two things I see happening.
He goes after the best QB prospect since Luck and drafts Williams and goes after the best WR/TE at #9.
Or
He sticks with Fields, trades down to Commanders or New England. Grabs the next Calvin Johnson and grabs another offensive piece at #9. Either TE or Tackle. Who ever is first or even trades that pick down for more picks.

If he sticks with JF, I'd like to see him go for a 3T or DE with the second pick. Maybe BB, but then we have to go to FA for a 3T or DE. Those guys don't hit FA very often if they are good, and then you break the bank.

If we trade Fields, IMO we need to get at least a half decent 2nd round pick. I don't know if we can, but we need something in the top half of the 2nd to be guaranteed getting one of the top 2 or 3 OC prospects in the draft class. If we get that and we take Williams at #1, we need to get another #1 WR at #9 and an OC with the 2nd round pick. I know we need additional help on the DL but if we get a rookie QB starting from 2024 game 1, we need 2 #1 WRs and a really solid OC. I've looked at all the top QBs in this draft class and they all play like crap if they have a pass rush in their face right at the snap, and that includes Williams. This would delay the complete defense rebuild a bit. But if Poles believes that Caleb Williams is the 2nd coming of Mahomes and/or Brady, he need to make sure he gets absolutely the most out of that investment from the word go.
If we keep Fields (and I am not saying that we must do this), a lot of the draft analysts are saying that there will be an extra "Williams tariff" for the privilege of getting the #1 pick to be able to get Williams for sure. I am assuming we would swap picks with Washington and get something like their 2nd (#36) and 3rd (#67) round picks. This would allow us to take MHJ at #2, hopefully a stud DL (either edge or 3-tech) at #9 and maybe even JPJ at #36. I have seen mocks where the publisher of the mock claims that Poles could do a double trade down (swap #1 for #2 and then swap #2 for #3) and still get MHJ at #3 and have both the #34 and #36 pick the the 2nd round. But I think they are doing some really scary drugs.
Again, this is all personal speculation and I happily admit I have been wrong before (and many times before). I could very easily be wrong now. And for sure, I will be wrong many times in the future. But the scenario where Poles trades down at least once is the "doozie of a deal" I was referring to.
In any event and regardless of how it actually plays out, I totally agree with you that this is going to be Poles' career defining moment. Whatever he and Cunningham come up with, I hope they don't just get it right, I hope they hit it out of the park. Because we will be set for years to come.
Oh well, the ice has melted in my glass of Bears Kool-Aid. Time for a refill.

Yes, I agree. Those are also my wants for the "trade Fields" and "keep Fields" scenarios. Will be interesting to see what actually happens
