These stats certainly look different than the ones I posted earlier. Getsy actually looked better in one of them

I think much as we have seen on this board, when you have a position you are trying to support, you can always find something to shore up your position. In this case, I have no dog in the race. I never really had a preference as I do not know any of them well enough to form a position I am ready to argue for. I just want the guy that can do the best for us and win games. That may be Waldron and it may not. But there is certainly no lack of positions on him - or data to support those positions for that matter.

Yeah, to be honest I think we just need to watch what happens with the guy. My initial reaction is that he checks a lot of boxes. He is not one of these Bears hires where they bring in a guy with poor (or no) experience. This guy has actually called plays for 3 years. He is not over-the-hill in age, but not some youngster that will give us a stroke watching him make rookie coaching mistakes. This guy is past that stage. Getsy (in hindsight) was a guy who really didn't have anything behind him other than he watched a Hall of Fame QB do his thing. It was the Bears hoping that somehow by osmosis he learned something and the Aaron Rodgers magic would rub off on Getsy and he could bring the pixie dust to Chicago. But he ended up being a horrible hire. The guy was beyond bad.

Maybe Poles and Warren (and Eberflus too) understand that THIS time around the franchise needs to pump bigtime NFL resources into the offense - and show that they can judge talent well enough to get good players this time around on offense. Bears have spent high draft picks on O players over the years and just whiffed. This time I so hope they get it right.

It sounds like the 2023 issue for the Seahawks was the offensive line woes. Holy cow I hope the Bears understand that this time around, for this new OC, let's finally fix the OL... the entire OL and not just a piece or two. It is so difficult for any offense to overcome a bad OL. We need a C and RG on the starting unit and we need better depth. I think it will take both the FA money and also the draft to fix the OL this year. And it needs to be completely fixed this year. No more "hope and a prayer" guys. It about killed me to watch the Whitehair/Patrick show on gamedays. It just brought the interior OL down. The two young tackles need to improve too, both of them.

Success rate: 45.1 percent (8th)
Dropback EPA: 0.138 (6th)
Dropback Success rate: 51.2 percent (5th)
Rush EPA: -0.059 (5th)
Rush success rate: 36.6 percent (24th)

For comparison, here's where the Bears ranked on early downs under Getsy:

EPA/play: -0.063 (28th)
Success rate: 40.2 percent (30th)
Dropback EPA: -0.064 (30th)

When Waldron has his entire menu at his disposal, he's one of the best play-callers in the NFL.

Waldron also has a proven history of dialing up explosive plays. From 2021 to 23, the Seahawks had an explosive pass rate of 14 percent, which ranks ninth in the NFL, and an explosive run rate of 14.5 percent, which ranks fifth. During that time, the Seahawks are also fifth in yards per play (5.5).

"I think he's an elite play-caller," an NFC scout whose team has faced Waldron's offenses several times told NBC Sports Chicago. "Really creative schematically. He's good at covering up weaknesses. Their offensive line really struggled this year, and I thought he was able to mask it as well as anyone. He's incredibly smart and versatile. That offense will succeed no matter who the quarterback is. He'll figure it out."

I look at it this way. We got our guy. I did not have a preference and I have no reason not to like the guy. I still don't know how good he is, but I am anxious to find out. Hopefully he knows his stuff. And can bring in some really good positional coaches.

Seattle Seahawk reporter talks about our new OC.

Sounds very similar to Getsy, minus having playcalling experience:

Issues w/3rd and 4th down play calling; but sometimes amazing.
Limited by players b/c of t talent and/or injuries and not knowing who could play and how effective they would be if they did; mentioned multiple OL players w/no IR but nagging injuries. It's almost like high quality players matter to coaches.
Should be fine, but not awe inspiring or a guaranteed success; was surprised how many people think he's amazing outside of Seattle.
Said that he is only a small part of Geno's success. Said most of that is Geno's maturation and Carroll's ability to influence and get the best out of anyone.
Said that he would likely prefer a QB different than Fields b/c everything he does relies on the QB trusting the queue's he's given and delivering the ball ontime, said he's not sure C-Will is necessarily a good fit for the same reasons. He won't want off schedule hero ball; again sounds a lot like Getsy. It's almost like the QB doing what they are supposed to matters.

Exactly. High quality players matter to coaches. One thing Waldron has over Getsy is his experience. He has more experience and it is higher quality experience than Getsy had before coming here. Getsy's entire NFL experience was at Green Bay and with zero play calling experience. And Waldron has worked with some solid coaches on three franchises - and has 3 years of play calling experience too. It doesn't mean he will be any good. But maybe if the Bears can upgrade the offense roster talent this guy will be okay. Only time will tell.
