Its still better to go with the unknown than to stick with mediocrity which is Fields.
My point is that I really really really don't want to experience another failure. I am hoping the Bears can ferret out if this Williams is the best QB for us to draft. I'm not wanting to rehash the past but look to the present and future. The past is the past and we can't change the past. But - this decision that the Bears are getting ready to make will determine if we (finally) get relief from the years of under-performing teams and become a good team. I just want them to get this right. And that's what we all want here.
Ok, If I'm getting this right. You agree that we need a new QB and its time to move on from Fields?
Because we are currently experiencing mediocrity with our current QB.

Nope. JABF has transitioned from the “keep Fields and draft Harrison” camp to the “just do it right” camp, which could be any of 6 different things.

Do it right means draft a franchise QB. Fields is a bottom Tier QB in every meaningful stat outside of "muh feelings" camp who thinks Field is better than anything we had in the last 15 years...

Yet another Williams vs Fields article.
Here is a part of it that stood out to me. Of course, weall have our own opinions so certain parts will stand out to us. Not saying we should not draft Williams. Just saying we need to be sure.
"They better be sure [Williams is] as much of an upgrade as he's made out to be," an NFC assistant coach said. "If Fields goes somewhere else and starts winning, and the new guy struggles, that's going to be a tough look.
"You don't want to give up on the guy because of this so-called can't-miss prospect, when we know the draft can be a crapshoot. You're not guaranteed success because you have 'No. 1 pick' attached to your name."

Sorry MP, we disagree on this and will continue to disagree on this.

Fields was an upgrade over Trubisky who just got fired from his job. Williams will be much better than Fields. Fields is a bottom tier QB in every meaningful stat. Not hard to pass.

Can you provide stats that show he isn't a bottom tier QB? I provided a ton of them... Field supporters never do... No "What If's" either...

The stats are what they are. No one that supports Fields can provide different stats. What seems beyond some peoples grasp is that not all the reasons behind the stats need to be the cause of the QB. Two things can be true at the same time. The stats can not look too good and the QB can still be good. Not saying I know for sure that JF will blossom like a rose in a different environment, but I have seen magic behind the line in terms of elusiveness. I also know the OC was not helping him any. And I know that he was not having much time behind the line. And despite all of that, he was still getting better.
I don't know why you continue to dismiss all of that and just keep putting it all on JF. I do get the fact that WIlliams is a super talent and that we are not going to have this opportunity again, and that it provides us a chance to build the team on a cheap QB plan. Those to me are more compelling than the stats. I think the stats are not truly reflective of the situation he was in.
Now, those other considerations are really meaningful. If I KNEW Williams was going to be better once he got to the NFL, this would not even be a discussion. You ALWAYS take the franchise QB when you can. The thing that makes me want to keep JF the most is that we can fill out the rest of the team (almost all of it) this year with some trade downs. I like that a lot. And it gives us continuity so we don't take a step back with a new QB. Of course bad continuity (see Flus) is worse than no continuity. The whole key there is that JF has to take that next step with the new OC and better OL. Do I think he will? Yes I do. Would I be willing to bet my job on it? No. Do I think Williams will be better than JF? I honestly don't know. I ignore the buzz and keep going back to how many "sure bet" QBs were sure bets until they weren't. SO no, I don't know he is going to be any better. I know he has the potential to be. Do I think in the end he will be? I do because he will have a better OC, better line and probably even more talent than JF. Would I bet my job on it? No. Because you just don't know how a guy is gonna be until you see it.
But there is more at play here. Politics and perception come into it. They had a chance to replace JF last year (probably would have taken Bryce) and we didn't JF grew, but not enough. (again, we did not put him in the best position). Now with all the buzz around WIlliams, if you don't take him and JF does not take that next step, you lose your job. Almost guaranteed.
There is NO doubt in my mind WHATSOEVER that JF taking the next step and having a chance to fill out the team is the absolute best option for the Bears, and that is my preference. The fly in the ointment (more like a horsefly) is that you don't know if he will. In the end, I think the best solution is to take Williams and trade JF. It probably has the most chance of success. Probably. I still think that JF WILL succeed in the right environment. But there are a lot of unknowns and you have to try and take the best path for success even if you don't really know what that will be.

That is universal truth for everything everywhere. We had 3y of Fields though.
We have. And none of Williams. So how do you say one is better than the other. After Williams has been in the league for three years, you can make a fair comparison. I am not saying to keep JF or that he is better than Williams. I am just saying I don't know. And no one else does either. It's all opinion right now.
