If Atlanta expresses interest, my offer would be: Fields for your 2nd + a swap of 1st round picks (#8 for #9). I'd kick back a 4th or next years 3rd (essentially the same thing) if needed to seal the deal.
If Poles pulls that off, he's da Man! That 2nd gets you a C or DE prospect and moving up to #8 makes Odunze or Nabors more likely.
As I already said, Falcons would want to use #8 to draft the same WR for Fields that we’d want for Williams at #9. I doubt anybody will offer much more than a second round pick.
I doubt it either. I was stating what I'd be pushing for. If Poles could pull that off, he'd be a master.

The second round would get one of JABF’s 4 centers, but probably not Powers-Johnson.
It’s possible that could happen, but a great edge rusher or 3-tech would be a better asset for the team overall. Chargers would take Bowers or Nabers at #5.
I just read that 3T Newton just had foot surgery (LINK). I found that interesting news. I've run that draft tool many times now just to see the flow of how it could turn out. I understand reality won't unfold like a mock tool. But there is some value to me, just to see how the various ways the draft unfolds for the Bears. With a trade down of that 1st pick the team has some great options to have a better overall impact on the roster. But if the Bears use that #1 pick on Wilson, that severely restricts what they can harvest in this draft. If they truly want to support this new QB, then forget defense with that #9 pick. That is the cost for drafting Caleb with the #1 pick. Unless they want to do like past regimes and not support the QB position to the max. It's back to "just draft a guy" and he is going to sink or swim (of course they all sink then).
Of course the Bears will draft defense anyway. But if it were me, I'd get one of the "Big Three" wide recievers at #9 if one makes it there. If not, then if Bowers is still there I draft him. If all 4 are off the board, and they very well could be due to teams understanding the importance of offense now in the NFL... then I trade down the #9 pick and go from there. That sucks I think but maybe you come away with the best C/G you can harvest, and a "next tier" WR.
I just feel like the Bears need to do everything they can to support (yet another) rookie QB. Let's get it right this time. The D will be a collateral damage victim to having drafted Williams. Keeping Fields would allow us to get MHJ and the 3T or Edge. A trade down would also help somewhat too (taking Maye or another QB in a tiny trade down, but no MHJ in that scenario). And of course you could overpay for a FA for a pretty good but not great guy... maybe Poles is planning this too.
JABF, I'm of a similar view.
I'm 99% certain Poles is taking Williams at #1 so when it comes to #9.....IMO right now, Bears should RUN to the podium if ay of the top-3 WRs is available at 9.
Complete no-brainer to go QB-WR in the 1st. The pass offense has sucked for too long and we can maybe rent Danielle Hunter for a couple years in FA. Defense needs to take a back seat here.
The second round would get one of JABF’s 4 centers, but probably not Powers-Johnson.
If you got Williams--Odunze/Nabors--JPJ/Frazier in the 1st two rounds, you just fixed the offense.
I'm not saying it's likely, but it's not impossible either. Poles just might be able to pull that off.
I'm thinking the same thing. Also, the Bears will have enough money to add a quality DL player and S in FA. The way Washington was talking about the DL I could sure see that FA signing happening. The Bears can really improve the roster this year and then build that last layer of the rebuild in 2025. If one unit has to wait more than the other for completion, hey, wouldn't you fix the O this year and the D next? And I totally get it that it won't ever be perfect. But it can be solid enough for the rookie QB to transition to the NFL with very good talent. Not perfect. But very good. That is doable.
EDIT: I was reading "The Athletic's" list of FA's. They note a number of excellent DL guys who will probably hit the market. There are also some safeties that would be pretty cool to sign. If the Giants let 25 year old, Xavier McKinney walk, I'd sign him in a heartbeat. There are some quality OL guys going to hit the market too. My point is that the Bears could do some serious upgrades with a few key FA signings. . They don't have to hit everything in this draft
That's fine. I'm ok with us drafting Bowers. Seems like the NFL is making an elite TE just as important as a elite WR. Chiefs and Patriots won a ton of Super Bowls with help from an elite TE.
Williams/Bowerswould make a great combo.
It’s possible that could happen, but a great edge rusher or 3-tech would be a better asset for the team overall. Chargers would take Bowers or Nabers at #5.
With the way offense is taking over the league. A edge rusher isn't enough anymore. You have to have a good offense.

And what do you think it takes to stop a QB? You need both. That’s why Poles is paying Sweat $100 million.

If we take Williams at 1, imo you just lost the top 3 wrs and the top Te in the draft at 9. I think you are at a lower receiving threat or fa for that. It is the price for using 1 for a qb. If we trade down to 2 or 3 that helps with building the team but still won’t get get us a #1 receiving threat if we use the first pick on a qb. Not to say we should or shouldn’t but to expect to get any of those guys at 9 is not realistic
1. CHI 2. NE 3. WASH 4. ARI 5. Chargers 6. NYG 7. Tenn 8. ATL 9. CHI
A lot depends on what teams are looking for. One if not two of the teams before us at number 9 will take an OT, and someone in there is taking a CB. If an edge jumps (and someone always jumps) into the top 10, suddenly the math becomes clearer.
3 QBs 1 OT 1 CB 1 EDGE =6 positions taken even before we get the the top 3 WR and the TE. Atlanta isn't taking a TE. I believe that one of the top three WRs AND Bowers (the TE) will be there at 9.
