This is bigger than just Dak. We have 6 QBs making over $40 million who have yet to win their conference.
Because players like Dak keep pushing for higher money while owners are scared to move on from said player and gamble on a rookie.
I see the QB market going to crash one of these days or have something to limit how much cap space a QB takes. Its gotten to the point where an average QB is hurting his team more than helping do to how much cap space they're taking.
That's where rookie QBs help you out a lot.
Saw it happen to RB's not 15yrs ago. You've already seen teams starting to cut, trade or move on from their over priced, under producing qb's. Contracts will come next.
The owners are billionaires, and it only takes a few to skew the costs through the roof. If Jerry Jones didn’t give Dak the big contract, some other owner probably would, leaving Cowboys with a rookie QB and missing the playoffs.
You don't buy stocks when they are inflated, it's a great way of losing money as it tends to show there is a bubble about to pop. Same here, let JJ and the others do stupid things that inflate costs for mid teir player, and use that as the excuse to move on.
Hey we love player x, but the value isn't there for the production on the field. W/that cost we can build a team around a similar player that will cost signifcantly less. Boom problem solved. Meanwhile JJ w/dak, Minny w/Cousins is mired is moronic decisions b/c "you have to pay the going rate for mid teir qb's that cannot win in the playoffs".
The fact is that a guy who can win you a lot of games in the regular season but chokes in the playoffs is not that easy to replace with a rookie. Stroud is the exception. If the Cowboys cut Dak, they would significantly reduce their chances. I think you’ll see that with the Vikings, too.
They are in business to make more money, not less. Basic American capitalism. They would start losing their “America’s Team” image if they stopped winning. The fact that they are keeping Dak as their QB after ANOTHER embarrassing collapse in the playoffs says it all.
they wouldn't make less. I lived in Texas for 8 years, there is nothing he could do, short of moving to Oklahoma to lose money.
I didn’t say they could ever lose money. I said they make more money with a winning team than a sub .500 team.

If the goal is to just win regular seasons then that's fine. Some owners are ok with that spot light as it brings them a lot of money.
They may not. What if Williams is on Allen level? They would become the next dynasty or competing with Chiefs.

Some fans — even some here — would be delighted if the Bears become the next Dallas Cowboys.
The lesson here is that having an elite QB can improve your chances over not having one. Not that you shouldn't even bother if you don't have one. There are a number of teams that have a SB with less than elite QBs, even over ones with elite QBs. It's just that you are improving your odds from year to year having someone like that in the backfield, over a team that doesn't.
The apparent downside of not having that kind of QB just means more things need to go right for the whole team if you want to win a SB. A couple of bad injuries, or players just not playing well, can sink a team with a lesser QB. Someone like Mahomes or Brady can help make up for those issues when they happen, where other weaker QBs might not.
+1 There are a lot of moving parts that have to work together in order to win a super bowl. If it were a math equation it would be one with a lot of variables. Yeah, the QB1 is a critically important factor, but not the only one. And no two team situations are alike, just as every player, coach and GM is unique. Fans sometimes fall into the fallacy that there is one "secret recipe" way to win. But that has never been the case in the NFL. Not everyone gets a Mahomes. But teams can still build a team that wins a SB. To do that the other variables in the team equation have to be high enough to overcome a QB1 who is not a Mahomes-level guy. FWIW I went back and looked over the starting QBs in the super bowls and not all are top-tier QBs. LINK

What about Mahomes, What about Rodgers and Love. What about Rivers(replaced Brees). Fact is it's easier for teams that are getting to the playoffs to replace their qb w/an upgrade then it is for bad teams. They have the capital to move up if necessary, and they have the players on the team capable of supporting the qb.
