I don't necessarily agree with those GMs either but facts are facts.
They chose THOSE GUYS over Fields. There's an old saying in stock investing that says "don't fight the tape". Meaning that market is what the market does, whether we agree individually or not.
I was shocked. Hoge was shocked too. But nobody was interested in handing Fields a starting job and having to restructure their O to accommodate him, especially on a 1-year flyer.
We can scream and bitch and call it stupid and bang our heads against the wall all we want but the market has spoken.
If Poles was going to trade Fields do you think he would do so before seeing CWs medicals? The narratives the media creates are realy doozies.
YES
There's nothing in CW's history or background to indicate a significant medical concern. Its merely a perfunctory exam and records review in his case. That is yet another irrelevant factoid the Forever Fields Cult has grasped onto in a desperate attempt to spin why no other team wants him despite it being a QB-driven league and JF having all this supposed "unlocked potential". If anyone else believed that, they'd gladly hand Ryan Poles a 2nd round pick at minimum.
Did you think Poles made the deal for Allen yesterday without him passing a physical first? YES he did. And Allen has a way longer injury history than Williams does.
The FFC is off the deep end on crazy conspiracy theories right now. Maybe Fields hasn't been traded because he was abducted by aliens and he's now a starring QB on planet Zeldona.
Personally, I don't care...I'd prefer to roll with Fields, draft blue chippers and reload next year. Other disagree and I can't argue with drafting a QB and dropping him into a team that looks close to starting its roll.
But...here's a few videos that are pro-Williams. Remember the infamous Watson video that a poster pushed as the reasons to not draft Watson (couldn't throw the deep ball and was inaccurate in general)? All these videos show cherry picked plays to prove the point, so don't kill the messenger.
I agree Brasil. Just want a winning QB. Either works for me. Fields lets us build the team more this year. New QB means we wait a year. As long as we have the right guy, I don't care.
Fields is due $2.7m this season which is peanuts even for a backup.
I was just referring to the fact there is a draft pick cost as well as a contract to plan for. There were cheaper options for some of these teams that signed other people.

That is not it. The 5th year option is due in May. You have to commit the money before you know for sure he’s your long-term QB1. There are TWO ways a GM can look like an idiot a year from now in that situation.

What Green Bay did with Love could be an option though. They didnt know what they had in Love and it gave Love a little more security. The 5th year option is dependent on the level of success. The highest is pro bowler. I think JF1 would be in low or mid which is $20M-$23M. Not positive, correct me if Im wrong. :-)

The money is not the whole story. Unless Williams gets off to a fast start, keeping Fields around is an invitation to a locker room revolt.

We are only assuming the revolt though. How many players in the locker room have said that Fields is their guy? Hell even a few of the players that were just signed said the same thing. IF they are all true to their word. How do we NOT know that these same players WON'T revolt once he leaves and C.Will takes over?
I don't care what happens at draft day much because either way we will have holes somewhere. All I am trying to say is these guys are all supposed to be Pro's and at the end of the day you either play or ship out. Eventually a player will revolt in his own way and well they have to get over it or see above.
If Fields truly sucks like a lot of people think then some players don't know the game. That is cool, they have the talent to see it I don't. But when you see a player like Justin Jefferson screaming on social media for the Vikings to get Fields. I gotta think he might know a little something about the game and the player that I don't and I am okay with that.
Oh and a sidebar and speaking of revolt. What will the Bears players feel about their own and our darling Nathan Peterman signing with the Saints with a promise to compete for the starter job ?!?!? Now that should start a revolt!

Everything will be fine if Williams starts out 4-1, but if it’s 1-4, Flus would have a locker room problem. And we’d see how Williams holds up under pressure. DJ Moore and Jaylon Johnson came out to strongly support Fields. Hoge and Jahns also talk to players, and say Fields has strong support. I’ve even heard Poles admit it, but then follows up with he considers it, but must do what’s best for the Bears, blah, blah, blah.
